Comptroller Dines with Community Leaders
City comptroller John C. Liu dined this afternoon in Basil with Elected Vaad Hakohol members Zaki Tamir and Yossi Hackner, who were joined by Chanina Sperlin and Eli Cohen. Mr. Liu reiterated the city’s commitment to Crown Heights, and said that if they ever needed anything to just pick up the phone and call.
big deal...yay
Very nice! So proud! /s
Now remind me how it makes a difference to us bottom line.
tipshim
Big deal pick up the phone and call. Who says he’ll answer.
Anon
You know the economy is bad when even the city comptroller wants a piece of the CHJCC pie. :).
chana
where is fishel?????????
ppplease
is this really our community leaders so sad
Jealous.
They had the best lunch in town. Basil ROCKS. No other Crown Heights joint comes close in quality, freshness or flavor. I love that place.
Who picked up the tab
I bet he just wanted a free meal
Confused!
If eli cohen is unofficially a community leader why is he blocking his face in all the pictures? shouldn’t he be proud?

Show use the money!
The CHJCC already gets millions of tax payers dollars in the form of government grants for the needy of the community and NOT a dollar goes towards the community but rather to fill private pockets.

Embarrassing that these clowns are the leaders of Crown Heights – they make Sperlin looked polished
speculating
interesting to see how so many community members had an issue with basil and were so fast to bad mouth and curse out the owners etc and now to see such pics and personally having seen chanina having meetings there and many other crown heights residents doing business over a nice lunch or dinner in a nice atmosphere…
What Millions???
What money are you talking about, I have not seen any of it, where do you get the sources, or are you just making an ambiguous statement

To 13:
Of course you haven’t seen any of it (the millions), thats exactly the point.
The information in public record, any citizen can find this 9if they care to look). Besides some of it is documented (or hinted) on CHLEAKS.COM
Corruption and Fraud at CHJCC
To #13:
Just to give but a few little examples of corruption and Fraud.
In fiscal year 2008-2009 the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. Under Chanina Sperlin, Eli Poltorak, Zev Cadaner and Fishel Brownstein, with Executive director Eli Cohen (who Zaki b. Tamir does not have the cojons to Fire) spent $601,121 on “office supplies and material”.
How much Office Supplies does the CHJCC Inc. need and what does it mean by materials?
Do they perhaps sell off the Office Supplies for hard cash? Who gets the money off this fraud?
$601,121 on office supplies?

In fiscal year 2008-2009 the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. Under Chanina Sperlin, Eli Poltorak, Zev Cadaner and Fishel Brownstein, with Executive director Eli Cohen (who Zaki b. Tamir does not have the cojones to fire) spent $106,643 on “Conferences”.
Conferences we haven’t heard about.
So much money spent on so called conferences yet so little spent on advertisements and promotion? The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. reported for fiscal year 2008-2009 spending a mere $1,803 on advertisement and promotions.
Was the money used perhaps to fund Mendle Handels “Kinnus”?
We know what the money was not used for, and that is to help the poor families of Crown Heights.
Exactly what kind of conferences do they need anyways?

The CHJCC received over SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS for the Weatherization Assistance Program, IN 2009-2010 they claimed to have spent only $2,468,935 of the 7 million.
Now to upgrade a small house to use better energy would cost about $10,000. At average a (fair size) home has no more than 15 windows at $200.00, plus installation at $100.00, we are holding at $4,500.00 a home.
With a good boiler upgrade at $5000.00 including labor we should see in Crown Heights no less than 240 homes with new windows.
Where are they?
But this is only one example that everyone can see on the web at:
Milhouse
#13, of course you haven’t seen any of it. Why would you? They took it all.
Chozzer Treyf
Zaki and Basil are sad signs of how far CH has fallen.
Nothing to see here...
Just more photos of our “leaders” smiling and patting each other on the back for doing such great work…
chanina
IS chanina a community leader?
Don-t Remember
For some reason – I don’t ever remember anyone electing Rabbi Chanaina Sperlin and Rabbi Eli Cohen to be our “Community Leaders”?!
The Jokes On You!
Chanina Sperlin is a Mosser.
The community voted him out, why is he still there you ask?
Becuase it is his part of the family business to be in the CHJCC.
“Chanina Sperlin is an EDP, The Sperlin family gives Chanina Sperlin a paycheck to stay away from the business”
For years Crown Heights residents have been accustomed to saying the above statement, as to why Chanina Sperlin is not in the family business (of real-estate), and why he is always in the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. (CHJCC)
My dear friends, neighbors, brothers and sister, the joke up until now was on us. The Sperlin family were laughing at all of us, all this time, while laughing all the way to the bank.
It turns out that the Sperlin family pays Chanina Sperlin a paycheck, not that he should stay away from the business, the opposite is true, Chanina Sperlin being in the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. (CHJCC), is good for the Sperlin business. Chanina Sperlin gets paid to be in the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Inc. to do his part in the Sperlin Business.
Who Will Explain To The Community Where And How The WAP Grants Was Spent-WIS or CHJCC?
WIS is giving the CHJCC a chance to spin this their way, so later they should not say what WIS explained/showed is not true.

Regardless, Chanina Sperlin is indeed an EDP but apparently he is a very useful EDP.
