Chayolei Beis Dovid in full swing at ULY

Each Motzai Shabbos, student groups of Lubavitcher Yeshivah’s 7th and 8th grades get together, play games, share stories, review Divrei Torah and inspire each other to be better people; it’s Chayolei Beis Dovid!

While teachers spend most of their day teaching students from in books, Chayolei Beis Dovid takes learning out of the box to the real life experiences. Beginning each weak with a motivational melava malka at the home of one of its members, where students not only learn and have fun but also plan out their activities for the coming week.

Currently, the theme project of Chayolei Bais Dovid is ‘a day of a Chossid’ where students inspire each other to say Modeh Ani, go to Mikva, go on Mivtzoim and so on; anything and everything that may fit into the day of a chossid.

During one particular break, students were lining up at a print out hanging on the wall of the day’s Hayom Yom, everyone trying to get a glimpse of the English translation.

On another occasion, students were seen dodging to a classroom Pushkah, before the start of Mincha hoping to give Tzedakah and still make it to their seats on time for davening.

Chayolei Beis Dovid has reached so many. Yeshiva staff report that parents call in regularly to find out what it was that got their son to start learning Chitas or who inspired their child to Say Krias Shema with a hat and jacket and from inside a siddur. Even a Yeshiva janitor was seen asking why so many students come in to school with a towel over their shoulder.

Chayolei Bais Dovid attempts to imbue a Chassidishe lifestyle into each and every student in its program. Its the tremendous dedication and commitment from each of the Mashpiim and a very powerful and inspiring atmosphere created by its director Yitzchok Pewsner that makes it work.

In its last inter-unit competition, the winners went on a grand paint ball shooting trip, the next trip for these boys is coming up soon and the tension is high, with each unit trying to secure its spot on this upcoming and promising trip.

The Chayolei Beis Dovid organizers urge parents and family alike to encourage members to do what they can to strengthen themselves and their friends in the things that make them the Chayolei Beis Dovid.
