ULY Students Visit Kingston Stores to ‘Clean the Air’

Lubavitcher Yeshiva Talmidim began a new Mivtzah today, ‘Cleaning the Air’! In yesterday’s Hayom Yom the Rebbe writes that everyone must clean the air by learning Torah wherever they go. Students were seen in stores on Kingston where they learned and received a prize and a treat from the store owners.

The Mivtzah is for all students from 1st grade and up.

Stores who participated in this great Mivtzah included: Judaica World, Raskin’s Fruits, Hamafitz, Boytique, Post Mark-it, Kingston Avenue Bake Shop, Nosh World, and Flash.

In the past whole grades did their own missions, notably taking a train ride where they learned a part of the day on the subway!

The Hayom Yom from the 11th of Teves:

Man’s life is dependent on the air around him. Without air he cannot live and the quality of life is dependent on the quality of air. In an atmosphere of Torah and mitzvot there is healthy life. In a G-dless environment life is diseased, and one is constantly threatened with the possibility of being stricken with contagious maladies. The first general step in healing is to purify the atmosphere. Purification of the air is the task of every person familiar with Torah and Torah-literature, and is effected through the letters of Torah. When reciting words of Torah while in the store or walking in the street or riding the subway, one cleans the air. Everyone knowledgeable in Torah must have some Torah memorized – Chumash, Tehillim, Mishna, Tanya, etc., so that at all times and in all places he will be able to think and utter the holy letters of Torah.

Thank you Rabbi Simpson for all of your wonderful programs. You are the drive behind all of these excellent and innovative programs.

  • Kol Hakavod-the store owners, Rabbi Karp

Year after year (my 19 year old son did this, too!) the store owners patiently sign the mission papers and reward the kids with a nosh, prize, or even a quarter! This keeps the kids excited about doing it, despite the cold weather. Positive reinforcement and fun methods are so important to encourage today’s generation to want to learn.
    Keep up the good work.
Maybe Rabbi Z. Karp should be hired to focus totally on being a program director for the entire ULY. He is very good at it. This is his strength….
The Yeshiva should try to use the qualities of its staff to the best advantage of the students – all would benefit (v’hameivin yavin).

I must say that Rabbi Simpson really tries hard to impress upon the students that learning is not only for the classroom. It’s for life.
