Rabonim: Come out and Vote!

In a letter circulated last night, both Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba and Rabbi Aharon Yaakov Schwei signed a joint letter calling on all members of the community to come out and vote this Sunday, June 13th.

The letter calls on community members to vote in both the Vaad Hakohol and Gaboim elections.

  • what about the women?

Everyone is so focused on the politics – what about the basic inequality that women cannot vote?

Are the residents of Crown Heights only men?? Are women not the foundation of the home?? Do women in Crown Heights not raise and educate multiple children, while sometimes working a full time job?? Do women not have the finest tuned intuition and smarts to decide which person they’d like to lead their community?? The fact that women are not allow to vote for the Vaad HaKohel is absurd. It is a VERY antiquated concept. When will someone wake up to smell the roses here???

It is great to see the rabbonim together on the advocacy of voting.

We all want something to change and NOW is the time.

Finally, we can take advantage of experienced, UNbiased and also young energy! What more can we ask for?

We have to think about what we are asking of the candidates, and realize that they are capable, even without some of the requirements some may expect.

I AGREE WE SHOULD ALL VOTE, AND VOTE FOR AS MANY AS WE CAN!

I appreciate the sentiments expressed in No.5, regarding women being able to vote for the CHJCC.
There are however Halachic issues regarding the inevitable mixing of men and women, literally around the same table; and working in close proximity to each other in the offices.
We are Chassidim, Crown Heights is not the Upper West Side.
However, our community needs the involvement of our women and this issue needs to be explored further.
Possibly a women’s advisory committee can be established within the framework of the Council.
Hopefully the new three member Beis Din can be asked to give their view.

This election is being conducted contrary to the system originally proposed the the Rebbe. Netzigim should have been selected before the election. It is even more illegitimate. than the one it’s supposed to nullify.

  • Melbourne Needs Elections

The Vaad Ruchni in Melbourne needs to make a similar ruling…the Executive needs to resign and hold elections

  • Aussie

I agree, the Vaad Ruchni needs to ensure that the Yehsivah Centre is run alpei halocha, which includes following the ratzon of the communtiy and ensuring there is no misue of position

Each household has one vote, being that the husband and the wife probably have the same interests. The one that actually goes out to vote is the husband (because of sensible tznius reasons). What is so non-democratic about that?
