I’m very happy these girls have a successful project, but by printing this article CH.info is only encouraging and implicitly giving credence that it’s perfectly acceptable to (and even something to aspire) a) be a “less observant” Lubavitcher and b) to go around dressed as un-tsnius as the women in this photograph.
I am shocked that B’nos Chomesh has students who walk around dressed this way. If your school is named for the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, how can your students live up to that when they are not dressed as a chassida of the Rebbe should be dressed?
I am disappointed in CH.info. Surely you could have run this article without the photograph or cropped the photograph more appropriately.
sickatating!!!!!!!
i cant even tell which ones are the jews!!
Don-t be so quick to attack!
The first girl to the left is dressed perfectly tzniusdikly. Maybe she’s the one from Chomesh. Ahavas Yisrael first, tznius second = al tadin et chavercha – you don’t know their situations in life.

Wow. “Sickatating” isn’t even a word – but if it were, the “sickitating” thing is the lack of tolerance for our African-American neighbors that exists in Crown Heights. Yes, there have been several incidences of crime perpetrated by African-Americans in the community, but there are also crimes perpetrated by Chabadniks and Jews in general anywhere. I think that most CHers lump all of our non-Jewish neighbors into the same category as the criminals and treat them as such. I always make a habit to say hello to my Jewish as well as non-Jewish neighbors – and I’ve been met with surprise by the latter group on many occasions. We need to follow the example of these girls and engage with our neighbors to form a stronger community. It doesn’t matter how “frum” the girls are – if they are happy, secure, kind people (and adults, by the way, at 18) and are bolstering the community by setting an example of the importance of peaceful, productive coexistance, who are we to judge them? In fact, who are we to judge them at all? That is not our place. Our job in this world is to love one another – and that applies to everyone. Yes, some people feel it important to encourage others to be stronger in their observance – but if these young women are educated in Jewish observance, raised in a frum community and aware of the demands of a chassidishe life and still choose another path, it’s not worth it to try to push them, ostracize them or denigrate them. Focus on the good that they do. Yasher Koach to all of them.
Some people are never happy.
It’s a shame how quick people are to complain. I think it’s a great idea and am going to but the cook book once available just to encourage ideas like this.

The girl on the left is the program coordinator and not only dressed tzniusdik but also overflowing with love and dedication for these girls and many thousands of other women she has inspired over the years.
It is because of people like her who don’t attack the girls who – for whatever reason- are not on the same level as others, but embrace them with love and show them a living example of how you can be ‘good’ and happy that we keep these children.
If only there would be more people like her the world would be a better place.
Bnos Chomesh isn’t a mainstream school but a school that would have prevented a lot of heartache if it would have been around 30 years ago.

To comment #1 & 2 -Who are you to judge these girls? Are you G-d’s personal judging assistant. Were you directed by G-d to judge. Doesn’t it say in Perkei Avot “Don’t judge until you have been in that persons place….”
I am not writing to justify these girls but rather as a response to the consistent judging done here in every article which features people from our community that don’t fit a particular “profile”.
As a chosid of the Rebbe, I take to heart what he taught us about Ahavat Yisroel – that we should love our fellow jew just because and that includes not judging them for what they are or not just celebrating them for the fact that they are one of us!

to all you complaining about the article and pic: you completely missed the point. these girls should be commended for reaching out in an attempt to erase racial divisions that exist amongst neighbors. for all our differences we’re actually remarkably alike. we all eat and we all have grandmothers. so to all of you so offended then i suggest you just keep moving because no one suggested that its ok to dress a certain way. your children shouldn’t have free access to the internet and newspapers and if they do then believe me you’ve got a lot more to be worried about. its time you taught your children what these girls are trying to teach you. tolerance despite differences. were more alike than you can imagine.

To number 1 & 2:
What are you doing to make the world a better place? Oh, I am sure that you do lots of Mitzvos and daven with lots of Kavana. Oh, and you learn Chitas, 3 Perokim Rambam, Inyonei geulo umoshiach and Chassidus every day. You probably also find some time every day to do Mivtzoim and make a Kiddush Hashem (which btw these girls are actually doing). You can also invite these girls to your house for Shabbos, although I’m pretty sure they have better homes to go to.
My point being, if you are trying to make the world a better place, you’re not doing a great job! Find another way to do it.

I’m shocked. To commenters 1 and 2, you are sadly defeating the Rebbe’s whole attitude of Ahavas Yisroel.
Bnos Chomesh is a school for girls who are “out of the box” and if they read your hurtful comments, they will not only be “out of the box”, but out of the Schunah, as well.
Please don’t chase them out, bring them in, whether super-tznius or not.
“Oihev es Habrios”, “love the creations” before you “u’mikarvan La’Torah”, “bring them close to Torah”.

Modesty is not only a matter of dress but about how we guard not only our eyes and ears, but our thoughts. Are we constantly condemning and judging others in our minds or are we spending our precious life-energy working on our OWN midot and our OWN modesty of character?
Surely these girls will flower far more successfully with your love. Your judgment will only make them run away.
It’s a beautiful thing these girls did and important for the safety & success of Crown Heights. I say yasher koach to them! And I hope that I can also accomplish something as bold as that to bring shalom to the world and to bring Meshiach closer!

you know, these jewish/chabad girls will be very hurt when they see most of your comments. Thats really what counts.
Would the Rebbe say some of those hurtful things? Do the mothers really want this? At lease they are doing something productive, not like some girls who are really off the derech.
YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY IN PUBLIC BUT NEGATIVE CRITICISM ON OUR OWN GIRLS?
The next girl who is having trouble with their yiddishkeit could be your own relative…..
oh, but you’ll give her alot of support. Not like these girls, who you don’t know, so with your lack of Ahavas Yisrael you can easily detach and just put them down.

All this obsessive talk/focus about elbows and knees is NOT modest. Why? Because it’s materialistic and it’s objectifying. It’s shameful and immature to point out these things and says more about those who notice it than those they’re talking about.

It’s so refreshing and nice to see people supporting these wonderful girls. To those of you who say that they should not be hanging out with gentiles, I find that disgusting. Jews and non-Jews are people. The same. Perhaps we have different religious practices, but we’re all people – and people eat. We may eat different foods or prepare them differently, but food is something that really brings people together. Let’s not focus on what separates us, but rather what can unite us. IF those girls (and I am not saying they do, but rather if ANYONE) choose not to follow a particular, even “conventional” path, that’s their choice. Let’s love them as people for their creativity, love for fellow man and woman, and unique contributions as human beings to society. As for what they are wearing in the pictures, I think each person in the photographs looks wonderful. Remember, the most important thing we can do is show kindness. Period.
