BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — A Crown Heights family went through a harrowing ordeal this Sunday afternoon. Their 2-year-old daughter slipped away and vanished as they enjoyed the beautiful day in Prospect Park.

The incident began at around 5:45pm, when the family suddenly noticed the child had vanished and began to frantically search for her.

A Boro Park Hatzalah volunteer, in the park with his family, witnessed the ordeal and lent a helping hand. He called Shomrim and joined in the search efforts along with police.

As Shomrim was initiating a grid search, the child was found. The child somehow made it all the way to the other side of the park. But Boruch Hashem the child was found uninjured and in a relatively short time

The family and CrownHeights.info would like to thank the volunteers and police for resolving the matter so quickly.

  • glad she-s safe.

For her to get to “the other side of the park” a two year old must have disappeared for quite a while before anyone noticed.

it wasnt the other side of the park, but it was far away, people were searching for over a half hour.
Everyone helped form the police to the park staff to all the peopel in the park, Jewish, goyim, Black, White.
When the grandfather found the kid, people all over were cheering him.
Tziril, kids run, mothers watch, In theory uou are right, but dont jump to conclusions.
BH the kid was found unharmed.

  • Don-t judge

To all those negative comments, don’t judge, you cannot imagine how easy it is for a kid to slip away, even for the most responsible of parents. Don’t sit by your computers being self righteous and pounding away at those keys spewing negative remarks, because you NEVER know what Hashem has round the corner for you, no matter how careful you are. Accidents happen, plain and simple.

This is not to say that parents shouldn’t watch their kids at all times and be as careful as possible, but sometimes, even with this, things happen.

tzirl/Miss perfect- you have kids?? ever had a 2YR OLD?? they run. it’s what they do. it doesn’t take “yenting” it takes a 1/2 a second. THATS IT. instead of blaming others wait till you’re in their shoes!!

Irememeber when my twins, 18 months old, slipped away quietly towards the muslim quarter. This was when we were living in the rova…many years ago. they were in a gan, and the gate was slightly opened and the two of them innocently slipped through the cracks in order to take a little stroll on Rehov Misgav Ladach right into the muslim quarter. This was right after the first intifada started in 1988. Luckily a dear friend saw them walking towards the muslim quarter and thought that something was wrong with this picture…and he quickly grabbed them and brought them home to safety; obviously he was the shliach for G-d’s intervention and protection..I shudder to think if they made it into arab territory..now they are 23 years old, and I am always reminding them of the preciousness of life, as they sail off to costa rica, bangkok, china, patagonia, new zealand, etc etc. Life is so fragile and the script can change in a fraction of a second. one must never take anything for granted, and just assume things, but be ever viligent and humble…..and yes the next day the gan paid dearly for their oversight!!!!!!

the little “girl” was actually a boy and his mother is the most conscientious mother IN THE WORLD. this happened in a nano-second, and poof he was gone.

She was obviously missing for a while, that doesn’t mean they didn’t know for a while. It could be after a few minutes they noticed and started searching south meanwhile she was walking north..

  • very annoyed

tziril are you a mother? kids can be sneaky and disappear in a split second. there isn’t a mother I know that this hasn’t happened to at one point or the other. to imply negligence is making you out to be a very snotty judgmental person. I hope this type of thing never happens to you but the arrogance of your ignorance is stunning. do you have any idea the panic and fear these people went through? Please think before you spout.

  • Toddlers will be toddlers

If I turn away from my toddler son for a second to scan the park for my other children, my heart always pounds since he’s off. Unless I tie him to me with a leash, this scenario will repeat itself over and over again. This is what toddlers do, they are really quick and want to be free. We have to daven that they are always safe and this family must really be special for this to have turned out for the good. May Hashem continue to guard your children from harm!

FOR THE RECORD THE LITTLE BOY (BOY – NOT GIRL BTW) DID NOT MAKE IT ANYWHERE NEAR THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PARK. HE WAS MISSING FOR A TOTAL OF 25 MINUTES, MOST OF THE TIME WHICH HE WAS BEING SEARCHED FOR.

IT TAKES LITERALLY A SECOND FOR A CHILD TO MAKE A VANISHING ACT. THANK G-D ALL IS WELL
