Signatures in the Final Hour

Today at 7:00pm marked the end of time given to potential candidates to collect and submit their signature sheets in order to be qualified to run for the Vaad Hakohol and Gaboim in the upcoming elections. In a final push, a group of ‘young’ candidates hailing from Beis Shmuel, the Crown Heights Shul, and others stood on Crown and Kingston collecting their final signatures.

I wanted very much to sign on behalf of Berel Sugar. He’s a real mensch, someone who cares about this community not about Kovod. I know, I have sat with him at meetings with the likes of the Police Commissioner.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t. I’m a woman. When are you men going to get rid of this archaic rule & allow the Nashim Tzidkonius (and there are many single, mature, intelligent women in Crown Heights) have a voice in who represents us? Believe me, some of these clowns currently in office would never have made it if we had a vote.

You see, women aren’t swayed by a brightly colored tie or a massive photo album. We want to see better schools, better, more affordable housing, safer streets, places for our kids to play. We couldn’t care less who can host the biggest kiddush or who can bring in the most celebrities or public officials to the neighborhood.

We use common sense, not old Yeshiva-buddy loyalties & expectations of kick-backs & favors.

  • Vote Tamir

I hope Zaki Tamir wins, he sincerely cares about the community and wants to get more funding for Crown Heights. We need it.

  • Melbourne Needs Elections

It is encouraging to see CH having elections…it would be great if Yeshivah and Chabad Melbourne followed suit

  • Survey calls for elections in Australia

The Yeshivah Melbourne did a survey, which the Executive refused to release the results of until it was mysteriously leaked on Wednesday…the results showed the Community wants elections

  • Aussie

interesting about the survey….I heard that they highlighed that the mosid lack transparency and accountability…

  • Bais Shmuel guys rock

wouldn’t it be great if, in light of the survey results, Melbourne followed CH on its path to Achdus and instituted elections

  • Crown Heights is the centre

if the yugnerlite in Melbouren were allowed to nominate for the executive, then there would be a future for anash…we can learn a lot from Bais Shmuel and CH…

  • Disillusioned

So nice to see young people get involved. Maybe this group will bring CH out of the 19th century.
