CH Bikur Cholim Reaches Every Corner of the World

CROWN HEIGHTS — Bikur Cholim Month, a Crown Heights community-wide campaign during the auspicious month of Iyar to promote awareness and involvement in the Mitzva of Bikur Cholim, has gone international!

While elementary and high school students around Crown Heights have been participating in varied activities, volunteering their time and their hearts for the organization, their representatives around the world, students at the Online Shluchim School, have been working just as hard to put the mitzvah of Bikur Cholim on the map.

Students in all grades are visiting, sending cards and doing whatever they can to bring help and cheer to the ill and elderly. Every class in the online Shluchim School is also focusing on saying Tehillim for those who need a Refuah Shelaima, and making get-well phone calls to any of their classmates who are absent each day.

Eighth grade girls are also participating in Bikur Cholim Month’s Art and Writing Contest along with the eighth grade and high school students in Crown Heights, answering the question, “What does Bikur Cholim mean to you?”

While bikur cholim is being performed by chabad children around the globe, the center of action is in Crown Heights. This week many classes in elementary schools were treated to a lesson on summer safety and general wellbeing, given by members of Hatzolah of Crown Heights. The students toured the ambulance, learning that hatzola members begin bikur cholim the moment a young patient enters their care, with toys and other distractions on board the ambulance to put the child at ease. Elementary classes decorated pop-up Get Well cards that will be be distributed at local hospitals and nursing homes. And over 50 challas have been lovingly baked by high schoolers, to deliver before shabbos to elderly and homebound in the neighborhood.
