Cable Internet Down throughout Crown Heights

Update 8:21pm: All Cablevision services are back up and running.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Optimum Online customers have been without internet since 1:15pm this afternoon, and are still waiting to get back online.

According to the Keyspan/National Grid contractors, one of their saws cut through a shallow fiber optic line on Kingston and Carroll, cutting off internet to all local residential and business customers, knocking out internet and Voice-Over-IP phone lines.

Cablevision technicians have been working to rectify the problem, a cut 216 strand fiber line, since 2:00pm, snarling Kingston Avenue traffic while new lines were pulled and spliced.

At 5:00pm a Cablevision tech told CrownHeights.info that they expected the repair to be done within two hours.

    this could have been awful!..Thank G-d our net service is okay.However, without the internet maybe we would all finally take the opportunity and have a real conversation with someone face to face, wouldn’t that be a chiddush! assuming we aren’t interrupted too much by our cell phones) Sadly, the net for many of us has become our pacificers. Without the net, some of us would be going though serious dextox symptons with tremors…..!!!!

    reminds me of the ’80s and early 90s when there was no intenet. having said that its scary when your phone is reliant on the internet and both are lost…

    all the way verizon fios!! No problems 10X faster than optimum online.

    For those of you happy. My business is dependent on the Internet working. I lost a lot of business today because of this. Erev pesach I can’t afford to lose money. Maybe try to be better parents and stop blaming a basic modern utility for your childs problems.

    FYI, fiber optic lines are not spliced, they are welded back together or repulled terminal-to-terminal.

    Some of us rely on the internet for our children’s chassidishe education. To those of us in the online school this meant our children had no teacher this afternoon.

    I was so furious at the morons who cut the cable. I had no phone or Internet (which I need for my business!) so i couldn’t work. By the time it came back up my clients were long gone. And no, I can’t get compensation as I was working punkt out of my house not my office yesterday.

    I thought about going to the office but the person I spoke to @ 2:30 told me 2-4 hours. Liar. It was 8 PM.

    I was supposed to give a class on the online Shluchim school at 2:30pm and my internet was gone, I then went to a friends house and later realized what happened.
