“One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure”
Similar to a tag sale, yet without price tags, clothing and accessories are available for the taking in front of Mr. Clean’s Cleaners on Albany Avenue in Crown Heights today until 7:00pm.
Passersby’s who noticed the tables of folded clothing and the racks of ties and belts soon added their own to the display. Originally, the plan was to give away clothing that customers had neglected to claim from the cleaners. The clothing will be available for residents to adopt free of charge.
While many organizations contribute to the Jewish community in a variety of ways without losing business, Crown Heights-based produce market, Mr. Greens, a sister-shop of Mr. Clean’s, donates produce that would otherwise be sold in their shop, to needy families. The program has grown every year since it began in 2004.
This year, 123 families in Crown Heights benefited from the shop owners’ generosity, receiving fruits and vegetables regularly sold in Mr. Greens – in honor of Yom Tov.
Community residents have greatly benefited from both the clothing and produce donations and many urge local businesses to use their professions to benefit the community as well.

What do you mean clothing people neglected to claim from the cleaners? Were the owners of that clothing notified it would be “given away” if they didn’t come to get it? And is there a Rav that said other people’s clothing could be “given away” if they didn’t claim it timely? I certainly will avoid that cleaners if this is what they do when someone is late to pick up their clothes.
Gdoila tzedaka shemekareves es ha-geula!

there is a law that cleaners have to keep merchandasied that was not picked up a certain amount of time. afterwords they can do as seems fit.
it is a very nice thing to distribute it back to our community instead of selling it in bulk

Thats so nice of people to do that!! I should have given my clothes and stuff I dont need. At least people with less stuff can have more. You see, this is what will bring moshiash! Ahavas Yisroel!
I benefited - thank you
They did this at Pesach as well. Everything was already pre-cleaned before they put it out. The merchandise had been in their possession for over a year, or was donations. I got some very nice clothes for myself, children and friends.
Thank you so much Mr. Clean!!!
