New Parking Regulations on Empire Blvd.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Over the last week the Department of Transportation changed out street parking signs along the corners of Empire Boulevard restricting parking close to the intersections. So far the intersections of Troy and Empire along with Brooklyn and Empire have been changed to no parking zones.

This was done to allow bicycles to pass the intersection safely. A total of 12 parking spaces have been reduced with more in the works.

The construction of the refuge islands have been progressing at a quick pace, with two intersections already completed. The project spans from Utica Avenue to Bedford Avenue.

park your car at gracy mansion and then ride your bike to Crown Heights. You will make the mayor happy and make the city more green. As for more parking spaces lost, its going to be even more tough.

This is the real point of the plan – take away parking spaces, not give them back, marginalize the automobile, force people to not drive. All hail King Michael the First!

  • No Parking!

No way! Taking away parking spaces from the limited supply? it is ridiculous to say the least.

  • Frustrated driver

Amazing how when the city wants to do something, it happens without a chance for people to object and in lightening time. Wow! What about repaving all of those streets in Brooklyn that are ruining our vehicles or so many other problems. Also, did our dear city planners ever consider what would happen if the lights were sychronized to enhance travelling at 25 – 30 miles an hour, instead of the haphazard system which frustrates drivers by making them stop at e v e r y s i n g l e light or driving like crazy to make a light and causing those accidents????

Does any one know how we can object to this or was our local community board bought off or coerced into allowing it?

  • Very Bad Idea!

just today I parked my car on empire blvd between kingston ave and albany.a guy on a bicycle nearly went smashing in to my door as I opened to go out! he make a quick left just missing a car.the space between the parked cars and the bicycle lane is maybe 2 or 3 inches! who ever allowed the city to do this should be sent to Iran!
while I was walking to kosher town I see a school bus stop to pick up young kids,to my disbelief I saw cars racing around the bus! what is going on? this kind of driving never happened! I hope it does not take some one getting killed to change this back as before!!! this was and is a Very bad idea!

  • DISGUSTED!!

what happened to not taking ANY parking away on Empire Blvd and making an ADDITIONAL bike lane???? I knew it was too good to be true! Just a way for the city to get more money from parking tickets. DISGUSTING!!!

  • P.O.

ahhhh…the dream of moving out of this hole is becoming more and more of a reality, with a new reason every day.

Normally I’m opposed to losing any parking spots. It’s hard enough parking on the street as it is. But Troy & Empire is a real accident magnet intersection. Having a clearer view of cross traffic may improve that and turn lanes will help too.

  • RIDICULOUS!

don’t ya just love how they changed the signs and hung them behind tree limbs so they won’t be easily seen?! that’ll get a lot of tix $$$ for the city!

THIS IS RIDUCULOUS! i LIVE @ Empire & Albany, so I AM tired of all the crazy accidents on my corner, but don’t ya just love how they changed the signs and hung them BEHIND TREE LIMBS! so they won’t be easily seen?! That’ll get a lot of tix $$$ for the city! BTW, “NO STANDING” means you can even get tix for idling your car while waiting to unload groceries or pick up a friend if the cops feel like it – it REALLY inconveniences the ENTIRE community!

  • Our Parkings Givin to them!

by the way the residents living at East NY and Schenechtady Just got more parkings (they can park at 90′ angle) these parkings were taken away from The heart of Crown Heights and Given to those african american residents!!!

  • Bike = Death

anyone who weres a seatbelt (or does’nt speed etc.) because they are concernd about their safety – Be Acknoleged that Diving a bike on the street is about 50x more dangerous than driving without a seatbelt.
(in NYC Millions drive without a seatbelt with little deaths, and Just a few thounsand bikers get killed in the hundreds each year!)

  • WHO CARES

THE PROBLEM WITH CROWN HEIGHTSERS IS THAT WE COMPLAIN AMONGST OURSELVES BUT DON’T DO ANYTHIN MORE ABOUT IT. IN WISSIAMSBURG OR BORO PARK THEY WOULD BE DEMONSTRATING ON A DAILY CONSISTENT BASIS UNTIL THEY GOT THEIR WAY.

  • new plan

I dont know who brought about this plan in the first place (if it was Police Dept, or some Crazy CH residents who compained to the city,
But curently it seems that there will R”L have to be some Major Injurys and deaths with bikes to realize the big mistake
