Crown Heights Subway Explosion, Worker Injured

CROWN HEIGHTS [NY1] — A transit worker was injured Saturday while doing repairs on the number 3 subway line in Brooklyn.

The accident happened at the Nostrand Avenue and Eastern Parkway station in Brooklyn, where switches are being renewed.

Transit officials say something dropped on a cable, causing an explosion on the third rail.

According to fire officials, the explosion knocked the worker off the platform and onto the tracks.

No trains were running because of the scheduled repairs.

The worker suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Kings County Hospital.

No other injuries were reported.
