First Precinct Council Meeting with the new C.O.
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Last week Thursday night was the first Precinct Council Meeting since the summer as well as the first one since Crown Heights’s 71st Police Precinct welcomed D.I. Peter Simonetti as the new commanding officer.

Rabbi Shea Hecht opened the meeting with a prayer and a moment of silence, following which Karl Cohen, president of the precinct council, introduced and welcomed the new inspector.
Mr. Simonetti opened his speech with the presentation of the “Cop of the Month” plaque to Police Officer John Hoder, who was being recognized for his outstanding service.
The inspector then continued with crime statistics and police reward programs for getting guns of the streets. “We offer $1000 for information leading to the recovery of a gun, and $500 for info leading to a graffiti arrest” he said, “crime is down 6% in the 71st precinct in the last year” he said, adding that “although there has been an increase in burglaries, our officers managed to quell that spike.”
Another common occurring crime is cell phone robberies which Mr. Simonetti addressed, saying it’s a crime of opportunity and people should keep their heads up and stay alert so to not become victims of this type of crime.
When taking questions one resident got up and raised his concern in the increase in the viciousness and severity of the crimes being committed, such as the attack on the elderly in the elevator and the beating death of an elderly man inside 751 Kingston Avenue.
Mr. Simonetti responded that there was an arrest made in the case of the attack on the elderly woman in the elevator, and that the perpetrator was charged with 6 other such attacks, adding that the attacks on the elderly do not appear to be a systematic targeting of the elderly, just that the perps are choosing easy targets, the inspector then trailed off into the importance of shredding your mail so to not be a victim of identity theft and veering further into the NYPD or the PAL not calling for solicitations, sealing it off with advice not to walk home from shopping in dark areas for fear of becoming easy targets.
In another question a resident returned the inspectors focus back to the Kingston Avenue incident and another incident where a child was shot in the summer, “aside from the gun collection programs, is the police themselves doing anything about it?” he asked.
Answering the question the inspector addressed the summer incident saying that they have good leades but because its under investigation he cannot comment, and regarding the Kingston Avenue murder he said “we have very good information, it was not just a random act, there was other things involved” and added that he cannot comment publicly until and arrest was made, but added “the victim has criminal history and this is very likely to be involved with that, but again I cannot comment.”
While answering the questions people attending the meeting were seen shaking their heads in dismay, when asked why the response was “he isn’t answering the questions and hiding behind ‘can’t comment’, is this what we are to start expecting from the new inspector?”
Others raised concerns about noise complaints and block parties being tainted with gangs and gun violence, which the inspector said he will forward to the appropriate departments.
One other resident got up and told the inspector that under the last commanding officer he had voiced many complaints about his neighbors loud music late at night and drug use but thing was ever done, yet since the new inspector came in the problem seems to have been solved, and he added “if this is the wind of change that is blowing into the precinct then I look forward to a good few years.”
While part of the crowed clapped a small group of Jewish residents walked out saying “this is a mickey mouse show” he says crime is down 6% yet in the last month murder under his command is up %200 as is rape and robbery up %21 right along with %14 in felony assault and %11 in grand larceny, reading off an NYPD crime statistic sheet, “how’s that for a statistic?”
After the question and answer session Mr. Simonetti excused himself saying he wasn’t feeling good and bid the crowd good night.
Police Officer John Evola then got up along with a group of the Law Enforcement Explorers which consists of teens taking part in various activating relating to law enforcement and keeping themselves out of trouble. They also showed off their new uniforms, something which is not funded by the police.
The meeting concluded with a number of representatives of elected officials informing resident of programs and activities that are available to the public.

This guy doesn’t do it on purpose, hes just an idiot.

disgusted
To I was there, You are an ignorant, stupid person who couldn’t shine his shoes. Why don’t you find something more productive to with your time than to find ways of bringing harm to decent, respectable people. How dare you bring G-d into this? G-d would never condone such actions. Remember, “He who is without sin shall cast the first stone.” Do you even know what that means you blithering idiot? Know grow up and be a human being who helps not hurts. If you want to see scum LOOK IN THE MIRROR!
cop cop cop!
to disgusted:
two things, 1) you are proboly a cop. 2) based on the ‘bible’ quoting you are proboly mr simonetti himself.

But I’d spite on your shoes so you can shine them yourself or just have leni do it!

FREE SPEECH
FREEDOM OF CHOICE
JUSTICE SYSTEM
The best part is that nobody can knock your door down and shut you in the back of the head (because you said some thing they did no like).
With all that said…
LET THE BEST MAN WIN.
Please add spell check
Can the owners of this site build spell check into this thing? If crime does not bring this society to it’s breaking point, bad spelling will.
I wasn-t there
I wasn’t there and I don’t know what happened. But there is a certain mentchleche way to communicate and Mr. “I was there” doesn’t exactly meet that criteria.
If you don’t like or don’t agree with somebody, it’s no excuse to put them down. Don’t drag yourself so low…
To the negative commentors
I don’t understand you guys, where is your mentchlichkeit? I guy starts a new job, give him a chance! You are not impressed, fine. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, you may even be right. But is simply not right to bash a guy right out of gate. It is also foolish and undiplomatic. It is not a way to gain friends.
Do you think that if you are not impressed they will immediately switch him out for someone else? Learn how to deal with the guys you have… Please, a little seichel!
Safety first
“I guy starts a new job, give him a chance!”
His job is not to pick up are garbage, were he to make a mistake in his first few days we can forgive him.
He is an Police Inspector in charge of the safety of our community, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR MISTAKES.
When it comes to peoples life’s you don’t take chances.
Besides, if this guy as you say is “new” then how did he make a such a major decision (for our community) in such a short time.
If we are indeed “right”, is there room for more such mistakes, can we really afford to play with Jewish blood.
“But is simply not right to bash a guy right out of gate. It is also foolish and undiplomatic. It is not a way to gain friends.”
But it’s simply not right to come to a community “right out of the gate” and demand or try to dismantle a group of people who have done nothing more then serve this community. It is also foolish and undiplomatic. It is not a way to gain friends.
“Do you think that if you are not impressed they will immediately switch him out for someone else?”
Yes, that is the way it has to be.
It’s like a Sidduch (match making) it’s good (both sides are happy) then they get married, it’s not going well you move on. We (the CHERS) live here and sleep here at night 24/7, he goes home at night and weekends.
We need a good honorable, respectable person with A LOT OF SEICHEL who will work with the people who acutely work for the community.
kind to the cruel
He comes here and makes a mess of things and you are worried about hurting his feelings!
What about all your fellow community members who are out in the street (the street/foot solders) giving countless hours and sleepless nights to make sure you and your family are safe.
Were is your pity for them (shomrim??!!!
Years a pond years they have worked to build their organization to better serve you without asking anything in return, now comes this “guy” and partners up with a group of criminals and thugs to try and shut down shomrim and you feel bad for him?
“when your kind to the cruel you will end up being Cruel to the kind”.
You proof that to be so!

stern says “its all a bunch of rhetoric”
taken from dictionary. this was the shortest translation i could find being that it seems this word (RHETORIC) is extremely complex with many different meanings and inflections

if the fact that shomrim has legitimate claims (paul heubener on many police reports, shmira member busted for vandalizing a shomrim scooter, and of course the notorious mossering of 6 shomrim members under the directions of stern himself) and all stern does is laugh and say “it’s all a bunch of rhetoric” id like to know what he means.
any smart people out there please leave your input.
