Store Owners Take initiative, Put up Cameras

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — In light of the recent attacks in the community, some store owners on Kingston Avenue are taking the initiative and putting up cameras outside their stores.

One store owner told CrownHeights.info, he hopes other store and home owners will follow their example and put cameras in front of their respective homes and businesses.

The cameras serve a double purpose. For one, it discourages potential criminals from hanging out in front of the establishment, waiting for their next victim. Two, if a criminal act is done next to the establishment, it would be caught on camera, and will help detectives in apprehending any suspects.

    well done. whilst e are all pontificating, individuals are taking the initiative to protect all of us. we cannot rely on our leadership ( some of whom are good, some of whom are bad),WE must all take the appropriate action to protect ourselves.
    do not wait for an organization to protect you .those who own buildings should – at their own expense- put up cameras. let all Jewish family’s on each individual block, unite , and work out a plan of how to pay for and cover their block with cameras etc..
    do not wait for others to deal with the problem. this goes for ALL problems with our community.

  • Lights and Cameras

    We have a bright light in front of our house and we will be installing cameras shortly. Everyone who can should put up bright lights outside as well as cameras. It will definitely deter the criminals- they like to operate under the cover of darkness… if they can’t find a dark area to attack, they will move somewhere else. It would help if the police/city installed more lights on the dark blocks along with cameras. But let us do wahtever we can to stop this.

    THIS is the way to do it. PRIVATE stores and houses should install cameras – with the financial assistance of the Community (council?).

    If it is done by 1 central organization, or the police, there is potential for privacy invasions…. and unpleasant situations. This way, when it is owned and controlled by DIFERENT private individuals, they will only release footage to police or others when it becomes necessary (chas v’shalom!).

    Apple drugs, GREAT JOB. Let many more learn from them. (but I believe there should be financial assistance for those that cant afford it… to motivate people to put of cameras. (at least several per block)

    if the police were willing (i’m not even talking about interested) to catch these guys, they don’t need cameras.
    just look at this morning- they tracked the stolen phone! Miracle!
    i’ll bett this is the first criminal in the last 3-5 years to use a stolen phone.

    With regards to fake and real cameras.

    Fake ones on their own dont do anything, talk to a pro, good fakes and hidden real can be a good combination to see everything happan even them breaking your fakes.

    but putting real cameras on thier own do nothing unless very visible.

    all places that sell cameras sell sighnes alowing everyone that passes by to know that they are being watched

    Can anyone recommend a source for inexpensive surveilence eqipment and recording / storage mediums?
    Cameras, on their own, do nothing if the act is not recorded.
    And video tapes and/or servers are not cheap.
    What system is Apple Drugs using?
    Is there a security company in the area that will monitor the feeds?
    This is a great initiative but there are many details to be sorted out.

    Apple Drugs is using Mezuri Systems, you can see from the sign. I’ve seen their sign in many places and have talked to people who have used them, and they were quite happy with the quality of their work and their service.
