Beis Rivka’s Eighth Grade Graduation Trip
WASHINGTON, DC [CHI] — Students in Beis Rivka’s eighth grade class celebrated their graduation recently with a whirlwind tour of the nation’s capital, but before they enjoyed the typical Washington, DC sightseeing they took time to stop and remember the 6,000,000 Jews who perished in the Holocaust at the United States Holocaust Museum.
The girls had studied the Holocaust this year, but still felt chills seeing the railcar, the bunker transported from Aushwitz, and other displays at the museum.

Afterwards, the girls walked to a nearby park to eat lunch, followed by a stroll along the water front and a chance to go paddle boating.
Then the tour of America’s government sites began with a trip to the US House of Representatives. There, the girls actually had the opportunity to see the US Congress in action. They went from the Congressional building to the Lincoln Memorial.
Next on their itinerary was a stop at the FDR memorial, which is unique among Washington’s many sites as it is comprised of a series of outdoor galleries. The girls loved seeing the beautiful plants, waterfalls, and other interesting displays as well as learning about an important era in American history. After a quick visit to the White House and of course some souvenir shopping the students, famished from all of their walking in DC, enjoyed some kosher Chinese food in Baltimore on their way home to Crown Heights. By then, the spirit of achdus among the girls spilled over into a group sing a long as everyone joined in their favorite niggunim.. The leibidike spirit continued the whole bus ride home.
