moishie rubashkin you are the MAN!! thanks for being there for our community and rebuilding it!! many of us appreciate you

without trying to sound extremist…there is a lot a evidence to show that chlorine is significantly unhealthy.
there are countries that have banned chlorinated pools. they have instituted salt pools instead. if you want to be ahead of the game…this would be the way to go.

To all you complainers, nobody ever died in the pool, but it did bring our kids hours of fun every summer. A little germs never hurt anyone!

This is fantastic. We are a large enought community to sustain and use a proper community/rec center. You know, we’re not so lucky to live in a beautiful suburban place where every other has a pool, that’s just a fact. This is a wonderful way to relax, have fun, and get some excercise. Remember: It all boils down to us, the Community, to keep it up, no mess, no littering, no babies without swim diapers, etc.
This is a great move forward.

    TO fully informed:

Your comment was commendable, but PLEASE tell me you don’t originate from an English-speaking country!
Your note was enjoyable to read.
Kudos to anyone involved in this project, the community definitely needs it.

    TO ALL.

To my understanding there will be days for men/boys and days for women/girls there is enough time to go around so the ENTIRE community can enjoy from this project…

thank g-d finally. thank you reb moshe rubshkin. this is the pool that the ot russian pesants shut down because they didnt have pools in russia. when i was a kid my father tought me how to swin at age 4. we swam and played in the gym. once late firday as i was walking home i passed 770. the rebbe was walking from 770 to the library. the rebbes asked my (i was a kid) where i was coming from, i replied the gym. the rebbe asked me if it was clean and if many children swam and played. i replied in the positive. the rebbe smiled and gave me a nickel for me and my younger brother. and instructed i give tzedaka before shabbos.

  • swimming fan!

I’m in heaven! This is the most wonderful article I’ve read in a while. I used to use the Oholei Torah pool all the time and was stuck when it was closed. Swimming is so unbelievably healthy and there were simply no options until now! I am so glad to hear that it will be reopening in a more positive way. Yasher Koach to everybody involved! Keep up the fantastic work!!!

  • Thank you, thank you!

Thank you to Moishe Rubashkin and all the other wonderful and generous people giving of themselves so that we may all enjoy and benefit from this wonderful place. As we say on Shabbos “V’chol mi she’oskim b’tzorchei tzibur be’emunah Hakodosh Boruch Hu Yeshalem S’chorom…” May you all be blessed with abundant blessings and know that you are profoundly appreciated!!!

  • revving up my muscles

please tell me there won’t be roaches after it’s done. are they doing a major exterminating project on that place? i hope so!

i’m soooo looking forward to this new rec center. thank you to all those involved! can they paint the walls with a beautiful nature scene (e.g. sunshine, trees, grass, flowers)?

that would be the icing on the cake.

  • the good old days

    Ohhh, the cockoaches!
    im gonna miss em’.
and the grime? c’mon, stop complaining! it ads to the OT atmosphere.

  • A Suggestion for the Pool

    Thank you to all involved!

From my experience as a lifeguard and Swim Instructor, the upkeep of a pool and its appeal will only be maintained w/ REAL PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT

Please keep the chlorine level at the level approved of by the Health Department. In the past, there were days that kids couldn’t enjoy swimming b/c their eyes would sting (and turn red) from the highly chlorinated water.

  • 770-96

Yasher koiach! Actually, I heard that the administration of the pool is quite concerned about the health hazards of chlorine and therefore will fill the pool with zechs un ninetziger in the deep end and Smirnoff in the shallow end. Opening day is of course March 22, 2008

  • A CH Baller

hey it says more info will be posted as they know im sure the admins in charge of the “rec center” aka the Y will notify ch.info about hours and days for men/women i just hope the basketball courts are next in repairs and updats and being open to the public again a big thank you to all those involved in this project.

not 11 years! like 2/3 years! well no pool… oh and to all those its the Oholei Torah pool on eastern parkway 667

  • BrooklyNite

Sorry to keep all of my fans in the dark and in suspence for so long, but I am back.

Great work being done here-that is a fact. Someone woke up!

But, I have a question: Boruch Hashem, there are individuals in our COMMUNITY who have FINANCIALLY succeded in amassing tremendous wealth during their lifetime. Boymelgreen, Drezin/Drizen (whatever), Rubashkin, … are just a minute number who come to mind. There are plenty more among us “well to do business folk.”

This COMMUNITY has a serious issue which must be addressed!!! Many young boys and girls are straying from Torah and Mitzvot. This is a known fact. In such a densley built neighborhood there is not much activity to engage in if you don’t happen to enjoy sitting and learning in one of our neighborhood’s learning institutions.

So, what does one do to engage in activity that one would enjoy? ANSWER: He or she purchases a metro card and travels on the number 2/3 trains which will take that he or she to which ever destination point desired in order to engage in the desired activity which he or she interprets to be enjoyable-WHATEVER THAT ACTIVITY MAY BE.

PROPOSAL: What if this COMMUNITY was to assemble or purchase a 10,000 to 30,000 square foot lot and build a state of the art COMMUNITY RECREATIONAL CENTER? Such a facility would include a tremendous 4 foot pool, numerous gymnasiums for basketball, soccer, volley ball, a rollerblade hockey ring, a running track, calisthenics exercise room, social hall, event rooms … you get the idea.

WHY SUCH A FACILITY YOU ASK? So our precious boys and girls know that there is a destination point WITHIN THIS COMMUNITY which hosts wonderful programs both physically and spiritually with a wonderful administrative staff and counselors, big brothers and big sisters to learn with or just spend time with.

There will be seperate entrances for boys and girls, seperate hours and so on… In the summer our camps can make casual use of the facility as well.

THIS PROJECT IS AN INVESTMENT IN OUR YOUNG, AND IN OUR COMMUNITY!

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!!! Where does one get 12 to 20 Million dollars for such a facility? Well, for beginners one can start with requesting a generous donation from each of the above named individuals. Truth be told-anyone of the above mentioned men can handle this sort of project independantly of the other. And if any reader does not think so, than Lubavitch World Headquarters is not located at 770 Eastrn Parkway. But it does, and I am right! The wealthy among us must realize their FULL potential as as Shluchim in the finances that this COMMUNITY needs and deserves.

Just like this recent pool cleaning has been overdue so is this INVESTMENT long overdue. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GLOAT ABOUT SOME CLEANING AND NEW TILE GROUTING-GO AHEAD. IN MY OPINION OUR PRECIOUS PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS DESERVE BETTER THAN WHAT I SEE PRESENTED IN THE PICTURE ABOVE!

    SIGNING OFF,

    BrooklyNite

I once asked how often they changed the water and they said Change the water? There is a filtration system. Any normal pool must change the water to comply with regulations sometimes.

  • Zeldy

Let’s not blow it by having water that is not healthy. Please, please let there be professional keepers of the water – cholorine at the mimimum level so one need not have any fear of bathing in excessivly chlorinated water.
    This IS really important!

    Yasher koach.

  • Safety 1st!

There is an electrical device that SHOULD be installed into ALL pools. Life Guards wear a “beeper”, which is “connected” to this device which goes off if anything is detected on the bottom of the pool for more than 10 seconds. It Saves LIVES!!! With all that’s going into fixing the pool, Safety should be the FIRST priority, and please explore ALL NEW DEVICES.
