by CrownHeights.info

A teenage thief was caught red-handed Sunday after attempting to get away with a stolen scooter in Crown Heights. The teen was apprehended and taken to the 71st Precinct in cuffs.

Crown Heights Shomrim recieved a call reporting that a scooter, owned by a young boy, had been stolen from a local supermarket. Using their advanced operations technology, Shomrim was able to track the thief’s path and watch as he stashed his ill-gotten loot in the trunk of a car.

The story though, did not end there.

Some time later, the thief returned to the vehicle, taking out the stolen scooter and taking it for a joy ride down Empire Blvd, heading directly for the NYPD’s 71st Precinct.

A call to 911 was made, and the thief made it as far as Empire and Brooklyn before being stopped by responding officers. As arrest was made and the scooter retuned to its rightful owner.

From theft to arrest was all under two hours.

Crown Heights Shomrim publicly thanked their Operations Team on Social Media, writing “Thanks to Shomrim’s advanced operations technology, from a theft reported 30 minutes after it occurred to apprehension all in under 2 hours. #ShomrimStrong”
