Accused Crown Heights Stabber Granted Bail, Due Back in Court in April

Armani Charles, arrested in December, is charged with stabbing 35-year-old Elias Rosner in the chest during a violent encounter that prosecutors say was fueled by anti-Jewish hatred.
According to prosecutors, Charles allegedly made chilling antisemitic remarks moments before the attack. Rosner told authorities that the suspect declared, “I’m going to kill Jewish people,” and added, “We wouldn’t be in this mess if the Holocaust had happened.”
Rosner was stabbed in the chest and rushed for medical treatment. Boruch Hashem, he survived the assault.
Prosecutors filed fourteen charges against Charles, including assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, criminal possession of a weapon, and aggravated harassment based on race or religion. Six of the counts are being prosecuted as hate crimes, reflecting what authorities allege was a bias-motivated attack targeting the Jewish community.
Charles has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was granted bail and released pending trial and is scheduled to return to court in April.
