Arrest Made After Fake Airline Tickets Sold To Chabad People Heading To Crown Heights For Tishrei
A 41-year-old Afula resident was arrested today (Sunday) on suspicion of being behind a large-scale airline ticket scam – after defrauding dozens of Chabad followers by selling them fictitious airline tickets to New York.
According to the police statement, in some cases, passengers were stuck in Athens at a connection and discovered that the onward ticket was fake. In other cases, they discovered at the airport that there was no ticket in their name, and in other cases, they were stuck in New York without a return flight to Israel.
The police investigation was opened after dozens of complaints were received in recent weeks from various citizens from all over the country regarding the purchase of plane tickets to New York for the Tishrei holidays that they made through an Afula resident – but did not receive their money back.
