One Package Thief Leads To Another’s Arrest In Crown Heights

A crew of Crown Heights Shomrim volunteers responding to a report of a package thief were in the right place at the right time, leading to the arrest of a porch pirate in south Crown Heights.

According to reports, the volunteers were responding to a call for a package thief when they recieved another hotline call for a different person having just stolen a package off a porch. Within a minute the volunteers were on the scene of the second call, and had eyes on the thief.

“Shomrim responded to a report of a porch pirate stealing packages in the South Crown Heights area,” Crown Heights SHomrim wrote on social media. “Thanks to a fast response, we were able to locate the individual and update @NYPD71Pct with his location. He was subsequently placed under arrest.”

Unfortunately, package thieves are rife in the Crown Heights community, and due to laws regarding the holding of perpetrators, they are commonly returned to the streets. Keeping a thief in jail depends heavily on the number of crimes and their severity, making filing police reports for each incident of crime a vital link to justice.
