by CrownHeights.info
After initially deciding not to charge the Crown Heights Shabbos attacker with Hate Crimes, the NYPD has changed course, tacking on the higher Hate Crime to the attacker’s charges.
As previously reported on CrownHeights.info, a father was walking with his son in the area of Union Street and Troy Ave in Crown Heights when the perpetrator attacked him with scissors, allegedly attempting to cut his ear off.
Video of the incident showed the attacker come up behind one of his victims and reach for his right ear while holding something in his hand. The victims responded quickly, and after a brief struggle between the attacker and both the father and son, they managed to remove get away from their attacker.
Hatzalah responded to the scene and only one of the victims was reported to have a minor injury.
The attacker had fled the scene towards Eastern Parkway and was witnessed to have dropped the weapon down a storm drain before the police arrived.
The attacker was arrested and taken to the hospital after appearing unstable, according to Behrman, and was originally supposed to face felony charges, without Hate Crime charges attached. That changed Sunday morning with the NYPD changing course and adding them as well.
