Shomrim Apprehend Trespasser and Burglar

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two alert residents on their way home Thursday night spotted a Black male sneaking from porch to porch of Jewish homes on Carroll Street between Troy and Schenectady, the residents immediately called Shomrim and did not confront the perp.

Within moments over 10 Shomrim members responded and surrounded the area from the alleyway and front of one of the homes belonging to Reb Yisroel Shemtov, which he made his way to rear to see if there was anything of value there, but ran into a few members who escorted him to the front of the house.

Resident that had alerted Shomrim had spotted the suspect with a box, and when the Shomrim members showed up he hid it and tried to claim that he never saw it, then said that he doesn’t know where he found it, but it was his.

The suspect claimed that he was there to do work for the Shemtovs, but Shomrim members had a hard time believing that at 12:30am, so they called Reb Yisroel and had him come and talk to the guy, who Reb Yisroel did in fact recognize as someone who once did work for him.

That alone was worrisome since the perp had prior knowledge of valuables that may be on porches in the area, so police were called and the suspect was booked on charges of burglary and trespassing, and a quick check yielded a number of such offences he committed in the past.

The fast Shomrim response was part of the additional patrols for the International Convention of Shluchim now underway in Crown Heights. Additionally Shomrim reported that police arrived within moment and gave the incident proper attention.
