The man who grabbed a Jewish child on Kingston Ave Shabbos afternoon has done what feels like the impossible in NYC, getting a judge to refuse bail and order him held in prison.

According to court documents released Monday, 28-year-old Stephan Stowe will be spending some time in Rikers Island as he faces a slew of charges ranging from kidnapping in the 2nd degree to endangering the welfare of a child. He also has a long and impressive rap sheet with over prior 30 arrests.

He will face a judge again next month on December 9th.

The story of the attempted kidnapping broke immediately after shabbos, and within just a few hours the man been arrested thanks to close coordination between Crown Heights Shomrim and the NYPD.

“Thanks to great collaboration between the Shomrim Camera team and the @NYPD71pct leadership team and detective squad, an arrest was made in regards to the concerning incident this Shabbos afternoon. #CHSafe,” Shomrim wrote on Social Media.

The arrest came after video of the incident was released by Shomrim and went viral throughout the Jewish community.

As previously published by CrownHeights.info, the incident took place around 3:30pm on Kingston Ave near Lefferts Ave as a father was walking with two children towards Lefferts. The man, who had just crossed the street, suddenly grabbed one of the children and tried to yank the child out of the fathers hand. The father fought back immediately and the man put down the child.

Rabbi Behrman publicly came out to thank Crown Heights Shomrim and the NYPD, saying “A special thank you to @ShomrimCH and the Community Affairs Unit of the @NYPD71Pct , who were taking calls at 12 a.m. last night.”
