PSA: Sophisticated Credit Card Fraud Hits The Community
by CrownHeights.info
A Crown Heights resident is warning the community after he was targeted in a sophisticated credit card fraud that involved large purchases on his credit card and a visit to his front door.
“Someone stole my credit card and ordered a 4k item to my house using his name,” the resident told CrownHeights.info. “He came and picked it up. Only after he picked it up did I realize that he stole my card.”
The thief had obviously already stolen the person’s credit card information, but was unable to make the large purchase as the billing address of the card had to match that of the shipping address. So the thief simply ordered the item to the victim’s address but shipped it in his own name.
When the package arrived, the thief showed up to the front door of the residence and simply asked for the package, claiming that he had accidentally shipped it t the wrong house.
“The guy showed ID, which I now assume was a fake,” the victim said.
Thankfully the victim was able to dispute the past charge on his card and block another attempt to do perpetrate the same scam.
The victim wanted to share the incident with the community so others should not all victim to the scam. Should this happen to you, you should immediately check to make sure the item shipped to your home was not charged to your card.
