Two Crown Heights Thieves Turn Themselves In After Shomrim and NYPD Collaborate In Tire Thefts

They stole tires of a car and thought they got away with it. They were wrong.

Two men who live in a Crown Heights building turned themselves into the 71st Precinct this week after a collaboration between the NYPD and Crown Heights Shomrim tracked them down.

The duo were spotted as they lifted all four tires off a car in Crown Heights a few weeks ago, but despite them “getting away”, Crown Heights Shomrim stepped up, canvassing surveillance cameras and identifying them and their getaway car.

Shomrim approached the NYPD soon after the incident with video camera evidence, and within a short time the NYPD was on the lookout for the getaway car. The thieves didn’t stay free for long.

Within a day of handing the footage to the NYPD, Shomrim identified the vehicle in Crown Heights and notified the police. A stop was attempted but the driver of the vehicle, one of the thieves, made a run for it and escaped while the police impounded the vehicle.

Knowing that they had been “made”, the two walked into the 71st Precinct this week and turned themselves in to the authorities.
