A startling incident unfolded Shabbos afternoon as a Lubavitcher walking between his Shul and his home was targeted by a mentally disturbed man. Shomrim volunteers at the shul were able to protect the location and detain him until the police arrived.

“A violent emotionally disturbed man terrorized and attempted to attack Jewish men and woman walking to Shul Shabbos morning all while yelling anti-Semitic slurs,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote in social media. “The incident further escalated when he began banging and throwing glass bottles on the doors and windows of Anshei Lubavitch on Albany Avenue and attempting to pull open the doors and gain entry.”

The Lubavitcher ran to Anshei Lubavitch and notified a Shomrim volunteer at the shul. Ensuring the door was shut, the volunteer radioed for assistance as the mentally disturbed man tried to force his way inside and threw things at the shul.

Moments later the mentally disturbed man walked down the block and as additional Shomrim volunteers were arrived they were able to keep the the man on the scene until the NYPD arrived.

The police arrived and cuffed the mentally disturbed man as he resisted. An ambulance was called and the mentally disturbed individual taken to the hospital.

“A Shomrim volunteer who davens in the Shul pulled the door shut and prevented the individual from gaining entry while calling for additional Shomrim volunteers to respond and the police,” Shomrim wrote. “Once confronted he violently resisted the police and was involuntarily committed to a psyche ward.”

Video surveillance obtained by Shomrim shows the incident at the shul.
