Arrest Made After Duo of Teenagers Go On A Crime Spree In Crown Heights

by CrownHeights.info

Two teenagers went on a crime spree in Crown Heights this afternoon, attempting – and in some cases succeeding – in stealing bikes and scooters. One was arrested after multiple calls to Shomrim.

“Two teenagers went on a crime spree this afternoon, attempting to steal and, in some cases, successful in stealing bikes and scooters,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on their social media. “Thanks to a fast response by Shomrim and the @NYPD71PCT one subject was arrested and the bikes/scooters returned to their owners, another still at large. #FightingCrime”

According to reports, the first call to Shomrim regarding the duo was over a case of harassment where they targeted a Jewish boy, shoving and harassing him in the area of Maple and Kingston.

The first call was quickly followed just a few minutes later when the group targeted another boy on a bike in Rutland Park, where they shoved him off and stole the bike.

Description of the perpetrators and the stolen bike in hand, Shomrim volunteers across Crown Heights began keeping an eye out for them. It took just minutes to locate them.

A Shomrim volunteer with his family in Lefferts Park easily identified the group along with the stolen bike, and after additional volunteers arrived, they approached the two. Faced with their crimes, the duo bolted, leaving behind the stolen bike and two scooters, also believed at the time to be stolen.

Tracking the pair, the volunteers caught up to the duo back in Rutland Park, but this time the police arrived as well. The group attempted again to run but were stopped by the police on Winthrop and New York.

Police arrested one while the other managed to get away.

Shomrim reunited the stolen bike with its ecstatic owner, and posted pictures of the scooters to social media as well, hoping that they too could be reunited. Sure enough, just minutes later, two more Crown Heights youngsters were reunited with their wheels.
