Recidivist Burglar, Arrested With The Help Of Shomrim Days Ago, Gets Busted by Shomrim Again Wednesday Morning

Is the justice system just broken or is it non-existent?

Just days ago, Crown Heights Shomrim assisted the NYPD in tracking down a wanted burglar who had been breaking into, and stealing, from homes in Crown Heights. Tracked down and ultimately arrested, the burglar went in front of a judge but was quickly released back on the streets. Typical.

Following the arrest, Shomrim published a poster notifying the community and included a picture of the burglar’s face. Over the next couple of day, Shomrim began receiving a multitude of reports indicating that the man had in fact been stealing from more homes than had previously been thought.

But that was all in the past

Early Wednesday morning Crown Heights Shomrim received a new report, the recidivist burglar had struck again overnight, breaking into a home and stealing a double stroller and nearly a $1,000 worth of goods. The 3:00am theft showed that the burglar, back on the streets, was still a menace to the community.

Within just a few hours the first tip was called into Crown Heights Shomrim by a community member that the burglar was local again. In fact, he was at that moment on Lefferts Ave in Crown Heights.

Within a minute multiple Shomrim volunteers were on scene and keeping an eye on him until the NYPD arrived soon after.

Following the arrest, Crown Heights Shomrim thanked the 71st Precinct and its Commanding Officer Inspector Tommy Smith, who personally came to the scene of the arrest. “We thank the Inspector for his dedication and care for the Crown Heights Community,” they said. “His great leadership and hands on approach to combating crime is appreciated by all.”

Thanks to the multiple victims who filed police reports and the many recorded incidents that took place previously, Crown Heights Shomrim and the NYPD were able to create a large file, which includes charges of Grand Larceny, to which they could present to the judge.

So now we will soon be able to answer our original question. Is the justice system just broken or is it non-existent?
