An arrest has been made by the NYPD in a hate filled assault that took place on Sullivan Street in Crown Heights last November.

“On 11/8/23, this perpetrator viciously assaulted a Jewish man near Montgomery Street and Bedford Ave,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on social media. “Shomrim volunteers responded within minutes and were able to get video surveillance of the perpetrator and the building he fled into. We obtained additional information that was shared with the Police. Thank you to @NYPD71PCT and @NYPDHateCrimes task force for their great work.”

As previously reported on CrownHeights.info, the incident took place as a Jewish man was riding his bike on Sullivan Pl in Crown Heights when he was approached by a male who stopped him and began cursing him as a Jew. As the Jewish man attempted to leave, he was hit across the back by his assailant with a large umbrella.

The hate-spewing attacker then took off on foot to Montgomery Street with the Jewish man following as he called Crown Heights Shomrim and 911. The Jewish man followed his attacker until he entered a project building where he lost sight of him.

Shomrim and the police arrived quickly and were able to retrieve photos and video of the man. The incident was easily identified as having an aspect of a hate crime and was kicked up the chain to the Hate Crimes Task Force of the NYPD, who took the case seriously and ultimately made the arrest.
