by CrownHeights.info

A disgusting scam has again reared its ugly head in Crown Heights after an elderly person was conned into paying $10,000 to a scammer.

Crown Heights Shomrim received a call at approximately 4:00pm that an elderly man had been called by a person claiming that a loved one was in legal trouble, and demanding $16,000 for their release. Unfortunately, the sophisticated scam included an AI voice begging for help which convinced the Jewish victim that the call was real. Scared, the man said he was unable to pay out, so when the scammers called back claiming to be a representatives of the court and offering just $10,000 for bond, he quickly agreed.

Unfortunately the Crown Heights resident got scammed and followed through, sending $10,000 he could not afford to lose to the scammers.

Crown Heights Shomrim put out a video warning the community of the scam and reminding them to always verify such a call by contacting their loved one.
