Fear-Mongering and Irresponsible, Shomrim Advises Community That Single Shot Fired in Crown Heights Was Not Targeting A Jew

At approximately 11:12pm Wednesday night, two African American men got into an altercation on Kingston Ave on the block between Empire Blvd and Lefferts Ave. The argument spilled over and a single shot was fired, flying wide and away.
A Crown Heights Shomrim volunteer, responding to another call just a block away, heard the shot being fired and was even able to record it on his vehicle’s dashcam. The police were called and the incident was marked for what it was, a dispute that did not involve any Jewish residence.
“Approx 11:12 pm a shot was fired on Kingston between Empire and Lefferts. Crown Heights Shomrim was responding to a call a block away and heard the shot,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on social media. “They were able to provide the police with footage showing a dispute between two African American men.”
Within minutes of the incident, and before the police had even concluded their investigation, reports began circulating that a Jewish resident was possibly the target of the shot fired. This, according to Shomrim, was fear-mongering and irresponsible reporting.
“While the incident is a scary one, Shomrim can confirm that no Jews were a target in this incident, and any organization or outlet reporting it as such is fear-mongering and irresponsible,” they wrote.
