A quick search of the suspects person did not turn up a knife, but after a short search a knife that matched the description given by the victim was found and bagged as evidence.
The victim B”H did not sustain any injuries aside from being visibly disturbed and agitated from the incident, and she did not require any medical attention.
Detectives from the 71st Precincts Detectives Squad arrived on scene a short while later and after a quick investigation ordered the arrest of the suspect, who is known for a number of disturbances and attempted robberies, which he was never arrested for due to his young age.
The scene at the corner of Crown and Schenectady began getting out of hand when a sizable group of Black resident came out of the buildings across the street and began shouting at the Jewish residents and at Police, including racial slurs to accusation that the cops were being unfair to the suspect and that he didn’t do anything.
At one point a Black woman approached the officers and pointed out one bystander and said she saw him beat the suspect up, the officer then focused their attention on him and began questioning him regarding his involvement in the incident. B”H he was not arrested.
Residents were left fuming after the incident, with feelings that police mistreated the victims and lost focus and tried to arrest a Jewish bystander. One resident asked a plain clothed cop, that he felt had mistreated him, for her name and badge number, but she refused to show it. A large number of residents then made their way down to the 71st Precinct to lodge official complaints against the officers involved in the incident.

Officially, what is police protocol when a bystander makes such an accusation?
Why is it that the victim is always on the defense?
According to this, whenever someone is assaulted, the accused should just have a friend say "they were beating him up" and the table is turned.
Also, in the case with the bike, the police would not make an arrest based on the word of the victim – but here they were about to -based on the word of a bystander.
It seems like an impossible double standard.
It seems like the police expect the Jewish residents to say, " I apologize for being assaulted. Please do not hold it against me that I was mugged/ robbed/spit at, etc. If there is anything I can do to make your next attempt more successfull, just let me know and i will be glad to assist – Oh – and I am really sorry for defending myself or colling the cops – it is your right to assault me and I should have taken it like a gentleman".

It seems that every time a crowd gathers, the same comomplaint is lodged by a "female bystander", and the police seem to give these complaints alot of credence – turning the victim or aaprehender into a defendant.
at scene, took youths to station
1st, please have your reporter get the proper facts, the girl was not accosted by the youth with the knife it was her brother and his friend.
2nd, she was not walking home from anywhere, but crossing the street to a friends house when 1 of the black youths verbally abused her.
3rd, the officers that arrived at the scene did absolutely nothing – took no reports, nothing was written down, etc.
only after the father of the 2 youths accosted asked for their badge #, names, and was calling the precinct for a LT to come to the scene did the officers there begin to do anything.
all they did at that point was question those involved, push others out of the way, tell the owners of houses near the scene to GET OUT OF THE WAY, GET OFF THE STREET. when 1 of the homeowners was asked why, she was told by this officer to SHUT UP. (this homeowner went to file a complaint)
lastly, at the police precinct, it took forever for the officer to get statement from the youths involved, — 2 of who had the knifed pulled on them, 1 who was physically struck by the black youth, 1 who was verbally accosted, and 1 witness. while at the station, the intake officer wrote down only their names, address & phone numbers.
now where – not at the scene and not in the station where anyones statements written down (discusting)

Last I checked, it is a civil offense to use racial slurs – something like a verbal assault and a hate crime.

The community council have to start being more firm against the police. They must take legal action instead of trying to leck up to the police, or as rumors have it, not to take bribes from the police (one member of the council).

1. took forever to get anyer — they had to be there by 9am and no one spoke to them b4 noon

um, there are plenty of jewish residents in that treat the black residents as if they are criminals before they even do anything. they give them dirty looks, and if looks could kill, well. they watch them in stores, sometimes blocking them from getting wat they want or need, and if your black u always feel like ur undre a microscope.

Attempted mugging
I had an attempted mugging on brooklyn between crown and montgomery IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! Thank g-d he didn’t get anything. Later when I went to file a report, I asked the detective, if I or someone else is allowed to push down and hold the perpetrator and the police said that once someone tries to mug you or harm you, you have every right to act in self-defense or have someone else hold the perpetrator until the police come. So when the police focused their attention on the bystander, they were totally WRONG!

its like most blacks feel like they are, like you said, in the ghetto camps of europe. they are constantly watched and scruntinized from BIRTH and they dont know why, and most often times this and ignorance leads them to lead very bad lives. if you would talk to any young black child, age 9 or 10, it would be shocking a hurtful to hear wat they believe they are based on how they are treated.
i lived through the crown heights riots and was attacked by yeshiva girls as a child because i was black, simply that. this racial tension, if not acknowledged and dealt with, will surely destroy this community. i think that another riots is on the way.
