Package Thief Nabbed After Stealing From Sterling Street Home

by CrownHeights.info

Stealing packages in Crown Heights has become a dangerous sport, and this criminal athlete didn’t work hard enough to get away.

The thief in question, already on Crown Heights Shomrim’s radar for multiple video recorded thefts in the area, decided to take some bags left in front of a home on Sterling Street, moving onto the homeowners property and making off with them.

The homeowner was less than pleased, and intended to do something about it.

“I went to the precinct and filed a police report,” the victim told CrownHeights.info, “then went home and was hanging around outside.”

As the victim was cleaning his car, the thief decided to come back to the block, actually walking right by the victim.

Not missing his chance, the victim called Crown Heights Shomrim and the NYPD. Shomrim volunteers tailed the thief as he made his way around the corner onto Empire Blvd and right by the NYPD’s 71st Precinct. The officers of the Precinct, noticing the Shomrim members and hearing the report on their radio, put the story together and came out to investigate.

The officers made a stop near Nostrand Ave, and after just a few minutes of questioning and reviewing the footage of the theft, the thief was arrested.

“This recidivist package thief porch pirate has been plaguing South Crown Heights for quite some time,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on social media. “Today, our eagle eyed volunteers spotted him after a recent theft and facilitated his arrest.”

While the thief may soon be back on the streets, there is a good chance he will be facing some rather difficult to answer questions, such as why a large amount of goods were found in his pant leg during his arrest.
