MELBOURNE, Australia — A carload of hoons who drove through St Kilda East shouting antisemitic comments through a megaphone has marred the first Shabbat of the new Jewish year, according to security personnel.

The Community Security Group (CSG) said the car passed the Yeshivah Centre and Chabad House Caulfield 770 on Saturday around 6.45pm, with the men shouting “F***ing Jews” and other insults through a megaphone.

While several congregants from Yeshivah pursued the car, they were unable to obtain sufficient information to identity the offenders.

The car later returned to the area and its passengers reportedly pelted eggs at Jews who were walking the streets.

CSG’s Gavin Queit said the incidents tarnished what was otherwise a “very quiet” Rosh Hashanah and police have been notified.

Queit appealed for any witnesses to contact CSG or their local police station.

You’d better explain "hoon" for non-Ozzie readers. The Macquarie dictionary says a hoon is “a foolish or silly person, especially one who is a show-off”; but it’s generally used only when such a person is driving a car in an anti-social manner.

well its a good thing you report this, bc i live in melbourne and go to kimberely(770) and i did not know about this! :)

A "hoon" in Australia is anyone who is behaving badly by creating a public disturbance usually by being very loud and unruly. A hoon is not necessarily in a car.
BTW, I didn’t see or hear of any disturbance…

I am horrified that you would write any part of the pejoratives that were hurled. It doesn’t matter how many ****s you put in. Children and other decent people read this site and don’t need to see it. Shame!

    B’H
This is really pathetic that we have to deal with such behavior!
I heard that onFriday night, at about 230am, a bocher was walking down the street in Montreal when a young black male put a gun to him and told him to hand over what he’s got…
it’s very sad that these goyim just can not respect us!
    Ad Mosai?

This is not news. As long as twenty five years ago, people were throwing eggs on shul goers on Hotham Street. Sadly, nothing has changed.
