Shomrim Facilitates Second Shabbos Arrest Of Knife Wielding Man Menacing Jews
by CrownHeights.info
It was a busy Shabbos for Crown Heights Shomrim with the volunteers facilitating a second arrest Shabbos afternoon.
The incident took place as thousands of men and families were making there way from Shul Shabbos afternoon and a man approached a father and his children walking in the area of Crown Street and Albany Ave. The man, distinctly wearing a shirt hiked up over one arm, flashed a knife he was holding in his left hand in a menacing gesture towards them.
The father was forced to step away from the man as he made his way by, and unwilling to allow others to be hurt, he began following the knife wielding man.
Still following the man, the Jewish father tailed him as he made a turn onto Kingston Ave and a right on Montgomery. From there he made his way towards Nostrand Ave. Between Crown Street and when the man finally left the Jewish area of Crown Heights, the father stated that he witnessed the man make threatening gestures to as many as fifteen different, people, all Jews.
As the knife wielding man and his Jewish tail passed a home on Montgomery Street, a Hatzalah volunteer outside noticed the suspicious pair and asked the Jewish man what was going on. After hearing the details he called 911 and Crown Heights Shomrim.
The Shomrim volunteers and police officers caught up with the man on Sullivan Place near Rogers Ave where he placed under arrest and taken to the 71st Precinct. According to a source familiar with the incident, the police were contemplating categorizing the incident as a hate crime, a move which would move the investigation to an elite squad and bring more significant results.
“Shabbos afternoon, we received a call for a male brandishing a knife at people as he was walking through the neighborhood,” Crown Heights SHomrim wrote on Twitter. “Our vols got eyes on him and were able to facilitate his arrest by fast responding @NYPD71Pct officers.”
