Alert Community Member Spots Window Smashing Vandal, Arrest Made

by CrownHeights.info

The man being sought in this morning’s window smashing on Albany Ave was arrested after an alert community member spotted him and alerted Shomrim.

As previously reported on CrownHeights.info, Crown Heights Shomrim received a call for help from a resident at approximately 6:58am reporting a man with a bat in the area breaking car windows. Multiple volunteers responded, but despite being on scene in less than two minutes, the man as described had already disappeared.

As volunteers fanned out searching, the extent of the unwarranted destruction became clear, with no less than three vehicles having their passenger side windows shattered.

With some volunteers canvassing, others quickly accessed Shomrim’s extensive network of surveillance cameras, being able to track the incident in real time and get a better description of the perpetrator. Despite a better description and a quick police response, the man had already disappeared.

A little more than three hours later the man resurfaced, with an alert Shomrim volunteer spotting him on Kingston Ave along with his long iron pipe used to smash windows. Other volunteers quickly arrived and they kept the man on scene as they waited for the police to arrive. Soon after, the man was in cuffs and heading off to the 71st Precinct to answer for his actions.
