Shomrim Nab Nelson Red Handed!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – After a hour and a half stakeout, 8 Shomrim members were rewarded with the apprehension and arrest of Terrence Nelson, 39, Crown Heights’s notorious auto burglar, with an extensive rap sheet including 26 prior arrests!

At 4:00am the Shomrim hotline rang and a resident alerted patrolling members that while they were locking their car they spotted a male black attempting to open their car, on Troy Avenue between Carroll and Crown, just as they had parked and locked the car. Apparently the perp did not see them, but he was unable to gain access to the car.

About ten minutes later the suspect fitting the description was spotted by a Shomrim member on Crown Street between Albany and Kingston, from there it was by expert coordination and proper following along with infinite patience that the members followed him all around Crown Heights for over an hour, until he finally made his move.

He went all the way down to Nostrand Avenue then doubled back up New York Avenue then back around to Union Street. The car he hit was on Union Street between Brooklyn and Kingston, he first passed the vehicle, then passed it again and sat down on a stoop right next to the car and waited for the coast to clear.

Two Shomrim members maintained a clear view of him and he finally made his move. Even though the late (or early) hour close to ten members surrounded Nelson and called Police, who arrived on scene within moments and thanks to great cooperation he was placed under arrest.

The witnesses to the incident then went down to the Precinct to give testimony and fill in all the information, were asked by police if there was any way to get the owner of the vehicle to come down at testify as well, which Shomrim did, tracking down the owner who was extremely cooperative and helped seal the matter.

It was well after daybreak when the call finally concluded, when asking one of the witnessing members if it was worth it, he said “for another 90 days of peace and quite from this guy, sure”.

Shomrim has nightly patrols where members in their private vehicles scour the streets in attempt to keep our residents and their property safe, they are just a phone call away from helping anyone in need.

This particular incident started, thanks to a resident that called and alerted the patrolling Shomrim members to the perps presence.

    The rich don’t bat an eye at their auto window being broken; they have on the scene insurance.
    The poor have to drive to an auto glass shop, wait up to an hour or two and spend from $100-$350 (About) This happened to me.
    Imagine going out to your car and find the driver (Or other) window broken while a light rain is falling and your wife and kids are holding their bags ready for the wonderful trip? You were hoping to beat morning rush hour. No chance.
    What kind of laws do we have? The criminal has the advantage over the honest citizen. This is a government?
    How can a criminal who makes life miserbable for many get away with it?
    A Chochom said: "He’s probably on drugs. He looks life he’s sick. He has nothing else to do."
    I responded: "First find the money he stached away from selling: air bags, radios, electrical appliances, etc.
    I imagine he’s hidden more money than he could earn on an honest job."
    I spoke to some Blacks and they said they would kill him. Post his picture around Crown Heights and let his own people take care of him.
    "One nation, under G-d, with liberty and justice for SOME."
    Sure, America is the greatest country in the world. The victim can hide some income and recoup what the government allows the criminal to take.
    I suppose government employees do the same thing.
    Perhaps even the president?

    Next time we got to break his arms! That should give us more time then the 90 days that the current law gives.

    I dont get it. how long will this cycle continue?
    Why follow him for an hour, waiting for him to break into a car and sending him back to jail only to have him back again in 2-3 months?

    next time we need to pick him up the moment we see him, politely inform him that he is no longer welcome here and gently persuade him to practice his career elsewhere. We should even provide him with a ride out of town, drop him off somewhere (perhaps a bit east of the FDR?) where he’ll enjoy it so much he wont ever want to come back.

    As a victim of a car break-in myself (probably by nelson -it fits his M.O.) I’d be glad to help deliver the message.

    funny comment about the rich and their "magical insurance"… regardless of whether you can afford the window, why would you make an insurance claim for a couple hundred dollars?
