Crime of the Day – Crown Heights’s Most Prolific Package Thief Strikes Again

by CrownHeights.info

This is getting ridiculous. It’s one thing to sneakily steal a small package and quickly make a getaway, it’s another entirely to see this happening on the streets of Crown Heights.

This Crown Street home saw the arrival of multiple large Amazon packages on Shabbos, with the delivery driver helpfully stacking them at the home’s front door.

Just after 1:00pm according to the home’s surveillance video, a person whom Crown Heights Shomrim has termed Crown Heights’s most prolific package thief, pulled up on his CitiBike. After perusing through the available merchandise, he made his selections and rode off, piled high with stolen items, and took into the blue.

The fact that this could happen in broad daylight is maddening.

This package thief had terrorized the Crown Heights community for months last year, returning just a few months ago lifting packages from buildings and porches at an alarming rate.

The return of the thief, who was caught by Crown Heights Shomrim last year, has sent alarm bells ringing across the Schunah, as thousands of dollars in packages are being stolen each day.

In an attempt to apprehend the known thief, Crown Heights Shomrim is urging anyone who has had their packages stolen by him to immediately contact them at 718-774-3333, and file a police report.

With his history and multiple open police reports, this recidivist thief has a likelihood of seeing the inside of a prison cell for a lengthy period of time, if only he is caught and police reports were made.

  • Why not have packages brought inside

I really dont see why the amazon driver was not invited to put the packages inside the door?
If he was seen delivering them the door should be opened for them to be brought inside

Also with all the packages being stolen why order packages to be delivered to homes in the 1st place? Have them delivered at work or sent by post office and picked up at the post office.

No savings if they get stolen

    Another suggestion.
Friday eve I was invited to eat at someone on the other side of eastern parkway. There was absolutely no police presence along Kingston after eastern parkway.

    1) Porch Pirate Repeat Offender Law – get the NYC Council to pass a law increasing penalties for repeat offenders within, for example, 3 years, and 7 years, who steal items left outside of homes
    2) Police sting – put APPLE TRACKING TAGS in “decoy” delivery boxes from porches with video cameras and arrest them as they get away. Based upon the old “Hasidic Cop Decoy Program” that was discontinued
