Busted! Amazon Deliveryman Caught Stealing Packages in Crown Heights
by CrownHeights.info
He was the last person you would suspect of stealing packages, but he was caught red-handed in Crown Heights.
“This is unbelievable,” the victim told CrownHeights.info. “An Amazon Delivery man wearing an Amazon shirt. What has this world come to?”
The Amazon deliveryman pulled up in front of a Crown Heights building this past Tuesday around 2:15pm, ladened with more than ten packages for the residents of the building. All is normal so far, as surveillance video shows the deliveryman laying out the packages from his bag. Then he comes across a package left there by UPS.
The package the deliveryman was looking at was a package from Sephora, filled with expensive cosmetics that had been delivered at 1:03pm, just over an hour before by UPS.
The driver stops what he is doing and takes a look around, ensuring that he isn’t being watched as he slips his bag in front of the package and quickly drops it inside.
After that he beats a hasty exit, hoping – futilely – that he would get away with his theft. The owner of the package was not having it.
“I think people should be aware that not all package thieves are typical,” the victim told CrownHeights.info. “Sometimes even the delivery guy is a thief.”
Set on finding what had happened to the package, the victim combed through the surveillance camera footage until he discovered the truth, the Amazon deliveryman stole it.
“I spoke with Amazon, they are doing an investigation,” the victim said. “I told them I want him fired.”
Having a person responsible for safely delivering your packages turn around and steal them is a slap-in-the-face for a community already struggling with rampant package thefts. Crown Heights Shomrim just this week published a PSA notifying the community of a prolific package thief stealing packages in the area. Now, you may not only have to worry about the known package thieves but those delivering the packages as well.
