She immediately began yelling “Chaptzem, Chaptzem” scaring the two perpetrators off and creating a lot of confusion. Other bystanders came to her assistance and began chasing, who they believed was the perps, while the Shomrim hotline received close to ten different calls each one citing different locations and incidents.

The victim managed to retrieve her wallet and purse, which the perps dropped when they began fleeing, making off with just $20.

Veteran Shomrim members who man the hotline and respond to calls quickly sorted the information out and began searching for the perps while getting police on scene as well. It was later determined that the perps fled into the housing projects on Troy Avenue and Park Place, well out of the area where it would be safe for Yidden and Shomrim members to venture.

Officers that had been originally flagged down by Shomrim then took the victim to the 32nd Transit Divisions Precinct on Franklin Avenue and Carroll Street, the division which is charged with patrolling and protect the subway lines in our area, where the victim spoke to a detective who asked a variety of questions, including if she had seen police presence in the station and does she feel if there needs to be more of it.

Following which a police report was filled out.

Readers beware, it is illegal to buy rides from people offering to swipe from you. Take notice of your surrounds and be wary of loiterers. If you see something always say something, notify a police officer.

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

please tell your friends and neighbors about this because most people are unsuspecting in the train station.
Also we should warn orchim to be careful especially how they take out money in the station.

Every week i read the various crownheights websites, always to find another mugging in my neighborhood or another person getting hurt.

Maybe this site and the shomrim can pressure our community council to make our area safer. To be honest, I’m a married man with a child of my own and after reading always of another mugging by our nice and friendly neighbours, I’m actually scared to walk down the street at night and i come back home from work between 11pm and 12am most nights.

I have shomrim on speed dial and i always walk home with my phone in my hand instead of attached to my belt so if i need to call its there available.

The police tend to come out for a few weeks once something has seriously happened then go away when the pressure is not on, why is that? Also, why do we have a community council if they cannot protect us in our own streets. Thank goodness for shomrim and shmira, they may not be police but i think they try to do a really good job at trying to protect our community however more must be done.

where was the token booth clerk??? & once again where were the police & I am pretty sure they will make little or no effort to catch the perps! after all the victim was only a Jew & a girl at that? maybe she did something to lead them on??? that is in their line of thinking isn’t it! just one more sorry excuse & nothing is being done to ensure our sfatety etc.!

There has not been a real police presence
in our local stations ( Kingston & Utica )
    for sometime now..
And none of our bigwigs/machors has made any noise about it either….
We seem to faqlling onto that old time golus mentality…
It’s time to Wakeup, Yiden !!!!
    Ad Mosai !!!

You should never open your purse in the subway. Have your money ready in your hand or pocket BEFORE you go down trhe steps. You never know who is watching you!

  • don-t touch me...

The situation in Crown Heights has gotten completely out of hand!!! Last week I took of all of my jewelry (wedding rings, watch, earings…) and put them away because I don’t want to give any shvartzes reasons to attack me! I too walk with my cell in my hand, my finger over the 9 key (my speed-dial for shomrim) although last night a couple of teenage blacks passed by and said "whatchya got there? a cell phone??" and I just walked by thingking "Yes…and it’s MINE!" (it’s insane they think the world is theirs for the taking!)and a bottle of mace in the other hand ready to spray ANYONE…(feel bad for anyone who would even just say "excuse me"-im so tense I would just start spraying like mad). I hate this situation where we can’t even walk around our own neighborhood and feel even remotely safe!!!!

Wow..! I did not know that it was illegal to give someone money when they offer to swipe their metro card.

Anyway I was thinking about moving to Crown Heights but my family would not agree to it. For me telling them that I’m visiting Crown Heights is already bad news for them.

They keep freaking me out about how dangerous it is out there but I have never felt it and I thought it would only be dangerous only in the evening. Not in broad day light..!!

Now I really have to rethink my perception of Crown Heights but its so sad that I have to think this way

Although being mugged is traumatic, we still can’t take away the fact that Crown Heights is a place about which the Rebbe said, "Kahn tziva Hashem es habracha". Hashem’s blessing is here, even though we’re still in golus and goyim are still attacking us. Those comments about not wanting to move to Crown Heights are understandable but unfortunate. Remember that these are the Rebbe’s dalet amos!

It wasn’t fun being mugged, but if it had to happen somewhere, what a blessing for it to be right in front of 770! When I yelled "Chaptzem!" a crowd of people immediately came to my assistance, reminding me that "Chassidim ein mishpacha".

Thank you to all the people who helped chase the perpetrator and to the people who helped me gather my belongings that were stolen from me. Special thanks to my brother who ran so fast after the theif that he OUT-ran him!!

And for the record, I think I learned my lesson. I will make sure to have the money for the MetroCard ready in my hand before I go into the dimly lit station. My father says he doesn’t buy his MetroCard if there are people around. He lets the other people go first and then makes the purchase when the coast is clear. As the saying goes, "Better Mrs. Jones late than the late Mrs. Jones."

May we have Moshiach already so we don’t need to worry about these things.

  • answer to: where was the token clerk???

    in regard to your question:
the token booth clerks themselves are stealers!!
I had a personal incident (just a few days ago) that the token booth clerk tried to charge me an extra dollar!!

We do not want our neighborhood to be called Crime Heights!!! I think we all ahve to act quickly to change this terrible image!!!
