Taser Toting Perp Arrested After Multiple Attempted Attacks in Crown Heights

A taser-toting perp attempting to attack people in Crown Heights was tracked down and arrested Tuesday night thanks to the vigilance of local residents and the tenacity of Shomrim.

At approximately 9:20pm, Crown Heights Shomrim received an urgent call from the area of Empire Blvd and Lamont St stating that a 12-year-old had almost been tased by a man. Shomrim volunteers arrived quickly, arriving to find that the petrified girl had fled her attacker into a home. During the investigation, it was discovered that another attempt had also been made in the same area on a bochur, who was thankfully also able to get away. The volunteers, armed with a description of the perpetrator, canvassed the streets but were unable to locate the man responsible.

At approximately 11:15pm, Shomrim received another call from a pair of vigilant bochurim who reported that two males were walking up Kingston Avenue with a taser in hand. Shomrim responded with alacrity and quickly caught up to the pair, following them while the information was shared with the police.

Once stopped, all the victims and witnesses were brought to the scene, and later to the precinct, and were able to make a positive identification of the perpetrator. Shomrim did a great job facilitating the arrest in a safe and efficient manner.

A Shomrim volunteer applauded the awareness of the would-be victims, stating, “their awareness is what saved them and propelled them out of danger.”

“Thank you to the police officers for responding quickly and for the collaboration on this call regarding multiple attempts at tasing people,” Shomrim wrote in a thank you message. “Shomrim would like to applaud the witnesses who called right away in real-time. This is what led to the quick apprehension. If you see something, say something, and today, the witnesses did just that.”

The perpetrator was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon and assault in the second degree, a felony charge.
