With Guns Drawn, Two Arrested in Crown Heights Over Car Theft

With guns drawn, Police officers make two arrests in Crown Heights in a car theft chase that involved three Shomrim Divisions.

Crown Heights Shomrim received a call around 6:00pm Thursday evening, asking to follow up on a stolen car that was being tracked to Lenox Rd & E 53rd St, a location that has seen an influx of Jewish residents.

Within a few minutes, a Crown Heights Shomrim volunteer had eyes on the car, as volunteers from Boro Park and Staten Island also closed in. The volunteers followed the car, carefully not making it obvious that they were following it as it made its circular way around the local streets.

Suddenly, the “chase” took a turn when the NYPD stopped the vehicle on East 91st Street between Rutland Rd and East New York Ave, and one of the occupants bailed.

Guns drawn, the officers ran after the fleeing criminal, tracking him down to a Jewish-owned home where he had hidden in the garage.

Ultimately, two arrests were made and the stolen car recovered thanks to a collaboration between the NYPD and three Shomrim Divisions.
