Jewish Woman Mugged At Knifepoint In Crown Heights Building

by CrownHeights.info

A Jewish woman was mugged at knifepoint in her own building Tuesday afternoon in Crown Heights, leaving the woman shaken but without having her stuff stolen.

The woman had been in the lobby of her Montgomery Street building at around 5:00pm when a teenager wearing a colored sweater entered the building and accosted her, pulling out a knife and demanding money.

At knifepoint, the Jewish woman handed over her phone, when another woman suddenly walked in, startling the teenager who made a run for the exit.

In his haste, the mugger botched the robbery, dropping the phone as he ran out.

Crown Heights Shomrim and 911 were called, but the thief had already disappeared. The NYPD took a report on the incident.

Crown Heights Shomrim reminded the community to stay vigilant and never give access to your home or building to a person you are unfamiliar with. Always request that they identify themselves first before opening the door.

Always remain aware of your surroundings, and if you believe you are being followed, don’t go into your home or building, instead continue walking towards a public place and call 911 and Shomrim right away.
