Multiple Car Break-Ins Reported in Crown Heights This Week

Multiple car break-ins were reported in Crown Heights this week, all within the same area as we have seen for months.

One car was reported broken into sometime before Wednesday morning on Schenectity Ave near the corner of Crown Street, a hotspot for car break-ins. At least two other cars were also reported broken into on Maple Street between Troy Ave and Schenectady Ave, sometime before Tuesday morning.

In all cases, the thief gained access by smashing the side windows of the vehicles, before rummaging through the cars and leaving them a mess. The owners of the cars are reporting that expensive items were left behind, even though the cars had been completely ransacked.

“Calling the police is obviously a huge waste of time,” said Sruli Clapman, one of the victims of Tuesday’s break-ins. “I feel more victimized after filing a police report than before.”

The NYPD recently apprehended a notorious car burglar nicknamed the “shopping cart bandit,” whose Modus Operandi included carting off his loot in a shopping cart. The bandit had been breaking into cars nearly nightly for weeks before the police were able to catch him.

CrownHeights.info would like to remind all residents to make sure your vehicles are secured, and all valuables removed before leaving your vehicle for the night.
