Police Officer Shot In Crown Heights Thursday Evening

A police officer was shot Thursday evening on Bergen Street in Crown Heights while responding to a call for help.

The incident took place around 9:15pm, when the 27-year-old officer was shot once in the back. The bullet reportedly struck his bulletproof vest, which stopping the bullet from penetrating his body.

The officer was immediately rushed to Kings County Hospital by FDNY ambulance for medical treatment.

At a press conference held at the hospital, police said that the suspect, identified as William Moss, was allegedly on his way to his girlfriend’s house when he told her that he had a gun and was going to open fire when he got there, according to the New York Post. Cops arrived at the residence after the girlfriend’s mother called 911.

The officers were talking to the younger woman when Moss arrived, shot the cop and fled, according to the sources.

A massive police response ensued, and a suspect was quickly taken into custody after firing at the responding officers, and the firearm recovered.
