Window Breaking Car Thieves in Crown Heights Finally Caught on Camera

by CrownHeights.info

After more than a month of teeth grinding aggravation and over a dozen Crown Heights vehicles broken into, video camera footage has finally caught a pair of window breaking thieves in the act.

The couple, a male and a female, can be seen this past weekend as they break into an expensive SUV parked on Kingston Ave between Carroll Street and President Street, directly adjacent to the 1414 dormitory.

The 2:45am footage shows as the two case out the vehicle, delay for a minute as a person walks by, before using a tool to shatter the passenger window of the car. In under 23 seconds, the job is done, and the two split up as they leave the scene.

These break-ins have caused significant tension in the Crown Heights community as the window breaking thieves targeted the community nearly nightly.

While this video does give some comfort that we may yet catch these thieves, it will be up to the 71st Precinct to investigate and make an arrest. After that, it will be up to the Districts Attorney’s office to charge these individuals, something that the NYPD has claimed they are reluctant to do.

CrownHeights.info would like to remind all residents to make sure your vehicles are secured, and all valuables removed before leaving your vehicle for the night.

If you have had a theft or break in, please sent any pictures and footage to news@CrownHeights.info, or to our whatsapp at 718-285-8000.
