PSA: Car Thefts and Break-Ins, Secure Your Vehicles

Crown Heights Shomrim has released a PSA warning the community of an uptick in car thefts in New York City.

“Coronavirus has emboldened car thieves in New York City,” Shomrim wrote in the PSA. “Auto theft is up 63 percent in 2020.”

Shomrim reminded the community that car thefts occur when keys or key fobs are left in vehicles or drivers leave their cars unattended with the motor running.

Car break-ins are also on the climb, with multiple car break-ins reported each week in Crown Heights.

Don’t be a victim!

• Remove valuables and double check that your car is secure before leaving it.
