Crown Heights, Brooklyn — In a bizarre shoplifting incident a woman got away with a vacuum cleaner in her bag! The incident took place in Sterling Electronics, owned by Mendel Brikman. At around 1:00 PM the Shomrim hotline received numerous calls from bystanders, store owners and store workers reporting the incident while Mr. Brikman reported the incident to the police.

Shoplifted a Vacuum Cleaner and Escaped VIA a Mikvah!?

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — In a bizarre shoplifting incident a woman got away with a vacuum cleaner in her bag! The incident took place in Sterling Electronics, owned by Mendel Brikman. At around 1:00 PM the Shomrim hotline received numerous calls from bystanders, store owners and store workers reporting the incident while Mr. Brikman reported the incident to the police.

Many Shomrim members responded and immediately got a description of the perp, who was described to be a Middle Eastern female dressed in a white traditional head cover along with a long white dress underneath a dark black shirt with gold lettering, in her later 20’s, and began canvassing the area for her.

Mr. Brikman told CrownHeights.info that he first noticed the woman walk into his store with a small bag and then a short while later attempt to leave the store with the vacuum cleaner box sticking out of her bag. Mr. Brikman blocked the woman from leaving and then made the call to 911 and Shomrim.

In the meantime the woman began running around the store as if possessed and managed to escape through an access window between the store and the Utensils Mikvah located in the alleyway.

Workers who saw the woman flee told Shomrim members that they saw the woman run through a house which was under construction to Crown St where they lost her. Canvasses yielded no results.

As police officers were filling out a police report Mr. Brikman commented to the cops that it took them a really long time to respond, especially since he was holding her in the store, the officers were apologetic and responded that they are very busy and got there as soon as they could.

    I think all these incidences, including the bus accident, should be documented with the length of time it took the police to arrive and sent to the Police Commisioner, Mayor and governor. Additionally, poor yaffa zlata should also sue the police dept!

    The alleys are the best place for all the thief’s to break in to places at night & for escaping & the police besides for driving their cars on the streets they also need to drive them at night in all the alleys.

    it’s time for people to speak up. the community has to act like one. there are many inciddents happening that are taking place here, that the police seem to come very late into the scene. crime is high in our neighborhood. we as people don’t want to protest or make any reports or want to be bothered to go to court to fight it to the end. you want to change you have to do something about it, not just sit there and complain. call the police commisioner, email the mayor’s office, contact the public officials, the ones you put in office to work for you. this is how you will get things done.

    I was there along with others and watched at least 10 minutes of this frantic women pound the front door despretly trying to break the glass it took the police and shomrim a LONG time because when I left they were still no where in sight, I was shocked when I read whe got away, there was a big croud

    seeing how sterling “always” presses charges, I think shomrim and PD should find better things to do than chatch a person just to let him go

    Why do you always complain the cop come late. In most precinct there are not cops staffing police station while you complain they show up late there is a shortage of police cause bloomberg doesn’t want up the starting rate for police officers, they make $25,000.00 a year before taxes. You people should stop complaining so much and be happy for what you got cause may bloomberg is happy they way things are.

    Take justice into your own hands if the police will not. What would be wrong with the store owner/manger pinning this piece of human refuse to the floor until the boys and girls wearing blue decide to show up.

    Heck, why don’t you store owners keep your own handcuffs around the store? Or a billy club??? Or more??? Protect yourself and your property. It is your right!!!

    In the store:

    I was actually in the store at the time and in the begining she tried to take away the key from mendel brikman and then she took hard objects to try to brake the window but it didn’t work so she started running thru the isles and we thought she ran to the basement but she really ran thru the mikvah window

    And the Cops say that crime is down what a joke, this community has the most crime in Brooklyn and the cops don’t give a hoop its not their community & they don’t protect us.
