Suspect Wounded in Police Involved Shooting
A suspect was wounded after being shot by police officers in Crown Heights early Sunday morning. Police were responding to calls for shots fired and upon arriving on scene observed a man with a gun in his hand.
The incident occurred on Lefferts Avenue near Rogers Avenue at around 7:15 Sunday morning. Sources said that the suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition and is expected to survive.
Sources in the police department said that officers were responding to a number of 911 calls saying that ‘a bunch of gunshots being heard’ and a ShotSpotter gunshot tracking system alert in the area.
“Upon arriving on scene officers observed a man standing near the corner and holding a gun in his hand,” the source said, “it is unclear what happened next but officers shot the suspect and he was rushed to Kings County Hospital.”
The source also said that the firearm was recovered and that there were no injuries to police officers. He also noted there is no community unrest at the moment.
