An arrest has been made in the case of a New York City rabbi who was murdered in North Miami Beach back in 2014.

According to Miami-Dade Police, 15-year-old Deandre Edwin Charles was arrested early Wednesday morning, after a 16-month long investigation.

Sources said the teen, who was 14 at the time of the crime, went on a robbery spree throughout Northeast Miami-Dade and North Miami Beach when he ran into Rabbi Yosef Raksin. Raksin was walking to a Synagogue, on that Aug. 9, Saturday morning, not carrying any money. Charles, who is accused of shooting Raksin to death got away empty handed.

7News was on scene Wednesday, as the teen was put into the back of a cop car in handcuffs. Charles was indicted by a grand jury, which means he will be tried as an adult. He is charged with First degree murder.

Raksin’s murder left his family and the South Florida Jewish community on edge. The rabbi’s funeral in Brooklyn was attended by hundreds.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office never gave up on the case, and now, as his family celebrates Hanukkah, a Jewish festival recalling miracles, they have their own miracle. Closure.

In an interview with Raksin’s daughter back in July, she said, “It could happen to anyone, and no one wants to live in this unknown place and feel like they could do whatever they want, take lives and just walk out free.”

Homicide detectives are currently going through the subject’s house, in Northwest Miami-Dade.

This is a developing story

Reply to #1. You are wrong. He is being tried as an adult and will IY”H spend the rest of his life in jail.

  • hard case to prove ...

since there’s very little – if any – evidence (like items stolen during robbery – since none were taken because of shabbos…) in this case… so unless they will show connection to the gun; it will be a hard case to prove.

But I hope they make the case.

      1. Are you experienced at prosecuting homicides which gives you the qualifications to pronounce that this is a hard case to prove?

      2. If indeed you are experienced and therefore qualified, are you familiar with ALL of the State’s evidence, which allows you to assess the strength of the case?

      3. Are you familiar with cell-phone triangulation which can pin-point the location of the accused within one block of the crime scene at the time of the crime?

      4. Are you familiar with the accused’s DNA evidence – found on the victim and at the crime scene?

      5. I am amazed that someone who knows so little can stand up and proclaim an opinion!

  • A 15 year old?!

That’s crazy. He must have been like 13-14 when the murder happened! In all honesty idk if he really did the crime. They might just be desperate at this point. :(
Justice should prevail; If the kid did do it, than yes, put him in Prison 25-life.

Don’t get your hopes to high. This punk will have a trial and then an endless appeal just like the murderer Lemeric DreqNelson. This Deandreq Edwean Charalos zol paygeren bkorov mamosh.
The community needs to show strong support for the prosecution and attend every session of the court in force. I hope the DA in Miami has a good and strong case and put this murderer into the electric chair.
